Hi Karen Does your Pigots for 1828/9 cover Berwick Upon Tweed? I'm looking for a John and Margaret Hope in Berwick at that time.

Hi Karen The 1881 disc set contains the census returns for Scotland which have been excluded from the LDS FamilySearch site. So still useful. dave

Cherry I found quite a few Rose Hill's but not from St Austell and I'm sure they are the same list as is on family search. The only extra one I had was - Rose E Hill Vist SisL <1852> Engl Berw This wouldn't show up on familysearch as census place was Berwick in Scotland. I take it that she was visiting sister in law. This seems only possible so far. There were very few Rose Hoare's on from SW (8) but the one the right age (got excited momentarily!) was an unmarried sister and I think you would already have found and discounted these. I checked for birth & marriage on vital records CD but couldn't find Rose. Sorry I couldn't help more. - Karen

chloe - is your guy in London? The volumes are PDF files with an index on the village/town. Under each listed village/town there is info plus sometimes list of main people and/or trades. Majority of volumes are for London but it does cover whole of england and wales too. Also there are supplements to the main volume which is more of a mismatch. Also if he in London do you know his trade? If you give me the town/village I'll have look, but bear with me, me and these disks have never had a good relationship! How are you able to search the Universal British Directory? I found this on Ancestry and was wondering if he is in there or something similar in 1791 Name Source Thomas Dusolei Listed in Bailey's British Directory [for 1785]; or, Merchant's and Trader's Useful Companion, for the year 1785 ... Karen could you posible look at your 1881 census for a person for me, it is for a Rose Ellen Hoare(nee Hill) born st Austell Cornwall c 1855 married to Charles Hoare(dont know where he is born or age) I dont know if they were married then or not but they were in 1885 living in Fulham area then. Hope this is enough info and not to confusing, i can not find them on familysearch website. Thank you Cherry

Glad to know 1881 is still worth its money! Jeanette - Have had a look at the Directory, can't see any of the towns/villages mentioned so far but its a non searchable PDF so will double check I'm not missing anything - everything is a learning curve! If you have any other towns or larger villages I can try them. Has lots on London area by the way, livery list and lots more - will I ever find all this useful!! lol Karen

Hi Karen. Don't use 1881 for coasters! It may be a pain to load cds, and the info may be the same, but you can do much more sophisticated searches on the cds than you can on the internet, which means you have a much better chance of finding the liars and the mistranscribed. B

Hi Karen How easy is the Universal Directory to search? Is it possible to see if there is a mention of the surname Greenley in either Muston or Folkton/Flixton in East Yorkshire? Thanks in advance Jeanette x

Universal Directory says - Universal British Directory by Archive CD Books. I think it is all UK. Thre isn't one mention of the family names I am searching for. Can only hope that as I extend my search a new name will have a successful result. I think I was a bit enthusiastic when I ordered all these, all made sense at the time, just remember being crushed when I got no results and the scanned images are quite boring when they have no connection - lol !

Woooooah there Karen! lol. there's only a small amount (about 2% I think) of the 1851 on Ancestry at the moment so no using them as coasters yet. Also there are often pages missing from the other censuses from time to time - think it might be because of updating - so your 1881 cd might be useful too. Does your Universal Directory cd cover the whole of England? Jeanette x

I'm starting to put all my programmes back on my new computer and have found disks that I have forgotten about! One is the Universal British Directory for 1791 and another the Pigot's Directory for Northumberland 1828/9. I must have ordered these when desperately trying to find a partifulalry difficult relly, don't think I found anythig relative to me, grasping at straws I think. Are they of any use? - happy to search for people Also got 1851 Census for Warwick/Devon/Norfolk and the UK 1851 Census (only partial I think) - however I believe these are now available to one and all on Ancestry so unless they have some great feature missing on Ancestry I guess they can become coasters too! Also have 1881 census & index but again don't think this will help any more than the ones online. Also have the BIVRI 2nd Edition Apart from being happy to look up anything I would also like to know whether all this info is now available online - anybody know?
