Hopefully they will boh be on there, if not at least i'll have his mothers name and can search back from that x Now I just have to wait, thats the worst part! I'm impatient!

Although it won't have a father's name on if he was illigetimate. Something that has unfortunately happened with one of mine! :-(

Yes and it should also give the mother's maiden or former name.

There is a Sidney Seager in 1891 in Hornsey aged 6 (could he have been 16?) with his family, and in 1881 a Sydney Seeker aged 9 also in Hornsey with family and parents Maria and Henry. In 1881 a Sidney Saher in Croydon with parents Richard and Jane. He had a brother Herbert. Just clutching at straws!!

In 1901 he was still living in the same area that he was born in and he got married there in 1899 too x Think i best get ordering that certificate x

Was he still in London when you found him in 1901. I was thinking not all areas were coverd by the census pre that date were they? could he have moved to one of thouse places?

For only £7 you can buy the certificate and find out his parents names. I think that is the only way that you're going to get back any further. Richard

Hayley The only way you're going to be able crack this is, as people have suggested, to buy the birth certificate. Then at least you have his parents names under which to try and locate him on the earlier census. If they were mistranscribed as a family, its actually easier to find a family than one individual person Lou

Hi Lou, Yeah i found him under Syd on the 1901 census but Sydney on records such as birth and marriages. It's just so frustrating when you come to a dead end. Nobody knew his name in out family as he left my grandad's mother when all the children were small and so my grandad never spoke about him! I found his birth and marriage to my g.grandmother, and even another marriage and child before that, but i desperately want to search back further! So Frustrating x

Hayley I assume you've found him under Syd as his first name on the 1901 census. Its unlikely that she would have changed his 1st name, but if she remarried it may be that the entire household have been listed with her new husband's surname even if he chose to continue to use Seager throughout his life Lou

Hi, If his mother remarried and he was under another name wouldn't he be using the new name in the 1901 census, its just i've found i'm under Syd in 1901 with his first wife and child but not before that on the 1891 or 1881 census. Thanks Karin, will have a browse around now for that. What are the best sites to look on?

Hayley, If his mother remarried he might be under another surname in 1881 and 1891. I think you need to get the birth cert to get her name. Crista

They're probably all mis-transcribed. I know my Sagar's are lol I think I had a look for yours and couldn't see him. When I get to work, I'll look a bit more :)

Well, the cert will tell you his parents names and that may well help you find them all in 1881/1891. Unless they were out of the country, of course!

Was just about to post that little bit myself, yes it was 1875 x I know i can buy a certificate but it is just annoying that he has disappeared from the 2 censuses! I don't know his parents names at the mo x
