to put it into phonetics its MAYCHIN you wouldn't beleive what trouble people have with it. It's a really common name around here (staffordshire's full of em) but anywhere else and i have no end of trouble! Claire x

Claire Elizabeth Hulme is Henrys housekeeper in 1891 and has 2 children.Samuel 5 Mary H.1 A couple of doors away there is a Mary Hulme 22 servant William Hulme 2 son.Living with William Shufflebottom 23 a coal miner.I wonder if she is related to Elizabeth

I think it is the correct entry in '81. There's a daughter for Thomas & Hannah: Sarah Ann 11 Henry is MACHIN Stepson In 1871 Thomas & Hannah are there - ages slightly out with Sarah Ann 1 & Henry as a SMITH but Stepson. I would say the relationship is correct but the surname isn't. This happens a lot.

Claire, join your local family history group! My friend runs it, she's lovely and lives in Somerford. Think she does the actual group in Congleton. I'll ask her if you're interested.
