in thinking that the census's (not too sure what the plural is!) on Ancestry are not complete? i'm sorry if this has been asked before but i'm kinda new to all of this. c x

~Little Ray of Sunshine~ Report 17 Feb 2005 09:27

sorry - didn't make myself very clear! is the entire 1891 census available or have they still got to enter some? The reason i ask is i have a rellie on the 1871, then no sign of him in 1881 or 1891 and then back again in 1901. This happens for a few of my rellies Claire x

It may be spelling or misreading by transcriber, the only way I found my family on the 1881 was by going to the district list on Ancestry and searching the area, luckily for me it is a small town and I knew where they lived.

Sam Report 17 Feb 2005 09:40

1881 and 1891 are both complete on Ancestry so your rellie probably will have been mistranscribed. Sam

Or depending on the age and gender of the rellie you can't find, the Boar War was taking place and lots of people's ancestors are missing from the census as they were overseas

Throw us the name you are looking for and anything else you know (birth place is a good one) and maybe someone else can find the for you, jess x

Claire If they were overseas they wont appear on the UK census records but if you google Boar War there's some pretty good sites about the people who served Lou

Name Henry Machin appears on 1901 aged 39 Married to Elizabeth Machin (figured out that her maiden name is Hulme), has various kids but the only one that will appear on 1891 is named Mary Machin (was 11 in 1901) Living in Biddulph Moor in 1901 and born in Biddulph. I can't find either Henry or Elizabeth on any other census. If you can find any other info i will be forever in your debt! c x
