1837online has deaths up until the end of 2003. I have an unlimited subscription there, so if you need look-ups, please see my thread in the Records Office forum! :O) Louise

Ancestry have the death registers from 1984 to 2002 on there site, I have found that useful. Gem:)))

I would make do with a site that gives details up to the 1980s

still looking for a site that lists recent deaths ...i.e. those that happened in the past 5 years or so. Any one know of such a site? Thanks, Andy

If you're lucky enough to have the right area, some of the Local BMD sites have records up to quite recent. Christine

Hi Jan, Good idea, I'll try it. Not sure if I actually posted to it though. Thanks, Andy

Andrew did you add anything to the original posting you are thinking about. Teaching grandma to suck eggs I know but did you look under 'your threads only' just in case. Only a thought. Jan :-)

Thanks for the replies. I'll take a look. The site I looked at a few months ago was free and listed very recent deaths.

Still no luck locating the site. I wish there was a good search option on this site to allow searching previous disucussions (not only the title).

Thanks Judith, that site looks useful. However, the one I'm searching for was defintely for free. It was taking its information from public sources if I remember rightly.

www.familyrelatives.org has the searchable 1984-2002 indexes

Hi Andrew, Yes there was one because I found my grandmother who died 2001. Cant remember it either. Marie

There must be another site out there launched recently. I remember finding on it my grandmother who died in 2002.

Sammy - evidently they got their info from the GRO, as did Ancestry & 1837online. However, you can't get any further details unless you buy the certficate, and to do that for the more recent deaths you need to supply the GRO with extra info, such as exact date of death, which is not available from the index. Richard

The webfamily site is more frustrating than helpful, you will not gain any further info than you see on the page. They do not enter into any correspondence, all emails go unanswered. You will just be left wondering who, exactly, gave them info about your relatives. Sam

Richard in Perth Report 9 Mar 2005 06:08

The webfamily site has the same info as on Ancestry or 1837online - i.e. all registered deaths in England & Wales from 1984 to 2002. This is only a listing of the GRO index, so if you want more info than is available on the index you still have to buy the certificate. Richard

Just been to the site you mentioned; it is working but they are not accepting any new registrations. Shame 'cause I found quiet a few of my people on the search pages. I'd like to find out what other information they have! Shirley

in the end that is not the one I was looking for. there is a site out there somewhere that is listing people who have died in the past few years , probably taking the info direct from public information.

Hi everyone, thanks for the replies. that's the one http://www.webfamily.org.uk/families.aspx the site seems to be a victim of its own success - not responding

Hi Andrew Do you mean this one http://www.webfamily.org.uk/families.aspx I'm not sure whether the site exists anymore cos it just gives me Time Out Error whenever I try and access it but you used to be able to search by surname then christian name and deaths went up to about 2003 the last time I looked Lou
