Sinead Report 3 Apr 2005 18:51

it would certainly seem so! I had only the 3 boys but it does explain where Selina went and why there were only 3 boys. I must have had a mis transcription or summat cos someone did a look up for me and I only had 3 boys and their parents. Have all info on 3 boys so will check on three girls Thanks,]Sineadxxx

Kate Report 3 Apr 2005 18:41

Also if you look at the 1891 again you will see that the Barbers had a family of Hurfords living with them including Emanuel Hurford son-in-law widower, so Emanuel must have been married to either Selina or Mary A and then she died before 1891.

Or have I got completely the wrong family? Kate.

As far as the marriage goes, I doubt if the Norfolk/Suffolk one is the right one, and I still think you should get one of the birth certificates to find Caroline's maiden name. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be much Bedminster stuff on the IGI; some of my ancestors came from there too and I'm having trouble finding out much about them, and unfortunately I think mine got married before 1837, but maybe if you find Caroline's maiden name you will be able to find the marriage in the GRO indexes after all. I am sure I saw Selina on one of the censuses earlier on but I didn't bother putting them up because I thought you had already seen them. I'll see if I can find it again. Kate.

well thats new to me!As far as the family is aware there were only the 3 boys! I wonder if she died-I have them on 1851,1881.1891and 1901 and she not there. They are not in 1871 and have no access to 1861. Another puzzle! Did this lot co anything straight?!

Kate

Kate Report 3 Apr 2005 18:24

This is from the IGI, one of Samuel and Caroline's children: IGI Individual Record FamilySearch™ International Genealogical Index v5.0 British Isles Search Results | Download | Pedigree Selina Barber Female Event(s): Birth: Christening: 03 FEB 1856 Bedminster, Somerset, England Parents: Father: Samuel Barber Family Mother: Caroline Barber Source Information: Batch No.: Dates: Source Call No.: Type: Printout Call No.: Type: I016098 Film Although it doesn't seem to say what that batch is, it contains loads and loads of Bedminster christenings so I think it is probably accurate not somebody's guess. Kate.

had a thought!!!! 1858- its after first two kids were born(1851and1856) and before the third (1860).Did that really happen then?

Sinead

Sinead Report 3 Apr 2005 18:11

sorry- kids tea time, had to go!!!! right!! Their first child was Thomas Barber born 1851 in Bedminster. As yet I have no birth certificate for him just a grave ( he was my g grandfather!). I have no idea of a maiden name for Caroline-but yes did not think of sending off for a birth cert!!! Steve- this could very well be the right one-but on the censuses she is down as coming from Bedminster so why would they go all the way to Norfolk/Suffolk to get married? mmmmmmmm

Christine2 Report 3 Apr 2005 16:41

If you don't have birth reference - there is a Thomas birth in Bedminster Oct-Dec 1850 X1 - possibly 64 (not too clear). Chrissie p.s. I hope Sinead comes back :))

Kate

Kate Report 3 Apr 2005 16:24

If you're still there Sinead, the only other thing I can suggest is to get one of the children's birth certificates to give you Caroline's maiden name if you don't already have it. Kate.

Kate

Kate Report 3 Apr 2005 16:22

This is the transcription of the 1851 census off my CD but it doesn't seem to help that much, I was hoping they would be with some inlaws but still, it looks as though Thomas was their first child born 1850, unless of course they had a previous one who died. SIDNEYS COTTAGES BARBER Samuel 24 Mason Bedminster, Bristol Caroline 22 Laundress Bedminster, Bristol Thomas 6m Bedminster, Bristol Kate.

Christine2

Christine2 Report 3 Apr 2005 16:09

So, looking at Carolines age, I think a good idea perhaps to start looking 48/49/50 ?

Kate

Kate Report 3 Apr 2005 16:01

And on the 1871 census (ancestry has their surname as Barter) their oldest son is Thomas age 20 so he would have been born in 1850 or 1851. Kate.

Christine2

Christine2 Report 3 Apr 2005 15:57

Looking at 1881, they had a son in c 1856. Chrissie

Kate Report 3 Apr 2005 15:56

Do you have any information about Caroline's maiden name? With so many Samuel Barber marriages (though none in Bedminster on FreeBMD that I can see) it's difficult to know where to start! Also, if it's one that hasn't been put up onto FreeBMD yet and you have to look in the GRO indexes, how do you know where to look unless you have her maiden name? Kate.

Carol

Carol Report 3 Apr 2005 15:43

sinead, dont forget that back then Bedminster covered a wider area that it does now. My g grandfather was born in Cleeve, Somerset but the GRO index states Bedminster

Kate

Kate Report 3 Apr 2005 15:43

Anyway, to help us look, when was their first child born? (Assuming they had some)
