I'm currently tracing my great-grandfather Edward C Waller ( I believe the C stands for Charles) but can't seem to find a record of his birth anywhere. I know he was married in 1914 to Jessie Petherick (Born 1886 in Aldershot, Hants) and that they were married in Kent. As far as I know he was born in Kent (although I've tried the possibility that he wasn't!) I've trawled through years worth of birth records (which I'm currently rechecking) and searched for him on the 1901 census but to no avail. Any ideas??? Thanks in advance

Hi I can find two possible births on Ancestry that could be his: Waller, Edward Charles 1896 June Marriages Holborn London Middlesex Waller, Edward Charles 1896 September Deaths St Olave Southwark London Surrey Any of these seem likely? How old was he when he married and do you have his fathers name? Sam

Hi Sam, Thanks for the reply. There is a possiblity of the last one being him. However I think that he was probably born before that. His wife was born in 1886, so I think he'd be older. But thank you so much for looking. Sometimes a fresh pair of eyes helps! Saff:) He married in 1914, I'm not sure how old he was but his wide was 28.

If you let us know how old he was when he married and his fathers name, there will be more chance of someone finding him. If you don't know either of these, you should get a copy of the marriage certificate as it will help trace him and his wife back. Oops, sorry I am being a thicko, have just noticed that neither of the two records I have posted above are births!! One is a marriage and th other a death! Sam

Suzzanne Report 4 Apr 2005 19:31

Hi, Is it possible that he was born and registered under his mothers maiden name? His parents may not have been married when he was born or perhaps he later kept the surname of a later stepfather. Good luck anyway, Suzzanne

Tracey, I believe he would have been between 28 and 30 years old. But this is guesswork. Thank you for your search. I actually like the sound of the last listed one. Is that from the 1901 census? I may have missed it. I think it's a good possibility he lived outside of kent. Thanks again Saff:)

Tracy, I found that one too! Can't quite get my head around that one! I'm thinking maybe it should read brother, not son. Either that or they started young in bedfordshire! Saff:)

Yvonne, I've had a look on the census but can't seem to find him. I will look again to be sure. The only thing I can think is that he wasn't living anywhere near where I thought he was. Thank you:) Saff

Found it!!! http://cityark.medway.**gov.uk/query/results/? Also cut and paste it into a word document and the make it go all on one line - if that makes any sense.

I used the marriage registration district (have searched for marriages this way in that district myself), and just went through tme one by one and found them!! Saved you £7! I wish it had been there when I was looking for marriages for my ancestors.... oh well, I've found some great great aunts and uncles getting married on there, and my mum's own baptism! Chloe

Can't find Edward on 1901, but he might be away at sea. This looks to be the family on the 1891 on the 1901 - might not be the right family but it's a possible.
