I found a few Williams marrying Emmas, but none are Abbotts.

Most marriages took place at the Bride's home Parish. Can you not get that from the 1881?

Sorry.........I had trouble too........if you are looking on ancestry their surname has been mistranscribed as Hawco. It is definately Hawes though as it clearly says so when you bring the image up. Hope that helps!! Kind regards, Lisa

Have you not found them in the 1891 census or 1901. This would give you some children and then you would know when to look for a marraige. Mind you some just don't want to be found as I have been looking for my g grandparents marriage for 5 years (not all the time mind you) I keep hoping it will turn up one day as I need it to my g granddad's father, like you I have nothing to go on. I am in the process of looking for all George Trigg/Triggs born 1848 with 5 years either side. I will then try and trace with the help of censuses on line the ones I have therebye being able to cross them off the list. Then check the burial for any others, with luck there will only be one or two left. So until the marriage turns up this will be the only way of proving it. Irene

Arggggghhhhhhhhh!!! I'm so frustrated!! William Hawes born c1857 in Norwich, Norfolk according to 1881 census and in Ipswich, Suffolk on the 1891 census!! He died aged 58 in Ipswich on 6/9/1919 (I have death cert) which would make it nearer 1861. He married Emma Adelaide Abbott but I can't find their marriage anywhere. Without it I can't go back further, what do I do? I have no other info on William. I can't find anything on the 1871 census as my info is so vague and BMD had nothing helpful for the birth year(s). I have a little more info for Emma but am stumped with her as well. On her birth cert (13/3/1857) her father is not mentioned and her mother is listed as Mary Ann Abbott but I am sure that her mother was married. Again I was hoping the marriage cert would shed some light. There is a possibility that I may have found Emma and Mary Ann on the 1871 census living in Ipswich but I don't know how to 'prove' that without knowing more about her first. So what would you suggest that I do next? How can I find the siblings and parents of William and Emma with so little info? What more can I check? Any help at this point would be gratefully received!! Thanx
