Deb Vancouver (18665) Report 26 Jul 2005 01:19

Is there any way to find the piece and page number for Hill Street, Toxteth Park, Liverpool? I am looking for Richard Miller and his family, wife Mary Ann and daughter Margaret. So far I have been unable to find them on the 1861. I have their address in 1857 as Hill Street, and in 1862 they were living at 3 Court - Hill Street, Toxteth Park. They are not listed by the name Miller. Deb

Hi Deb, When you say they are not listed by the name Miller, do you mean you can not find them?? or you suspect they are using another surname?? What are their DOB's ??? and where were they all born??? Lib

Richard was still around in 1869 when his son Richard was born, as was Mary Ann. They had 5 children in all spanning from 1858 to 1869. Richard married Mary Ann Mulloy July 26th 1857!!! I received the certificate today - Coincidence or what!!! Thanks for your time and effort. I'll keep plugging away! Deb

Deb if its any help, Richard of Perth gave this advice on another thread. the 1837online version of the 1861 census is searchable by address. In this case, it's probably worthwhile spending a credit or two on that site - once you've found the piece/folio number for part of the street, you could then locate it on Ancestry and use the back/forward buttons on there to check the rest of the piece.

I see what you mean, only two pages for Hill Street. The rest are Upper Hill Street. I'm wondering if the two pages are actually Upper Hill Street. I'll have to give up on it tonight and continue the trawl tomorrow. At least I'm in the right area! Deb

Deb You can do a street search on 1837online for free - true you need credits to look at the images (and therefore to get the names) but at least the free search tells you whether the street exists and what house numbers are on there. I did a free search for Hill Street (residential place = ''West Derby'') and two came up: one in North Toxteth ward and one in Everton ward. I presume that it's the North Toxteth one that you're looking for. From the house numbers listed, numbers 1-12 seem to be there, but from 13 onwards, there are only odd numbers (13 to 107). Of course, maybe there were no houses on the even side of the street from no. 12 onwards, but equally possibly it might indicate that part of the street is missing? The search results also show the schedule numbers. These seem to jump around a lot for this street, which suggests that it was enumerated in several parts, and therefore could be scattered across several folios? Richard

Deb Found the even numbers for Hill Street - they start at RG9/2700/58/42. Haven't found the odd numbers yet! The even numbers do all seem to be there, not sure why they don't show up on a 1837online search.

There's another Hill Street, in Lime Street ward, Liverpool. On that, number 3 is called ''3 Court or Johnstons'', which seems to have been a block of flats or something - covers several pages. I can't see your family there though: RG9/2690/62/34

HILL ST is in district 6 for Toxteth 1861 At the moment all I get is Error for image, As I said before, go to 1861, pick anyone from 1961, Lancashire, Toxteth Park. Bring up their image. Look at the top Lancashire>Toxford Park> District is shown Click on Toxteth Park. This will bring up all the districts. Click on District 6 Have e-mailed Ancestry with error, hoping they can let us know if these records exist or just a problem with viewer. Could be a long wait :(
