elizabeth mason aged 40 on 1901 census , 1891 she can,t be found 1871 census she was living with her grand parents . no marraige can be found for her and her husband. which all means i can,t find out who her parents were. there is 2 birth,s for elizabeth mason on yorkshire bmd 1.born 1861 2 born 1863 the advise i need is if i order the birth cert and get the names of the parents from them then try to find those parents to match up with the grandparents from which elizabeth was living with in 1871 do you think i would end up with the right elizabeth. hope this makes sense catherine

tracy, yes that is them and on the 1881 census they were both single charles's real name is stephen james smelt not charles no idea why he changed his name. they were both living in scarbrough on the 1881 census he was a plaster and she was a servant of some sort . catherine

Ahh - 2 Ss. That explains it. I have been through all Smelt marriages from 1881 - 1901 and can't find a Stephen/James/Charles marrying an Elizabeth.

It could be her. When FreeBMD decides to work for me, I'll look for a Masson. I think Masson /should/ be Mason. I found an Elizabeth Mason in 1891, but not a Masson. What does it say in all the sections of Jessies birth cert? Makes finding them easier if I know all the details. If you don't want to post, you can PM me them.

That Jessie appears to have died in 1890 and the one on Ancestry looks as if she is a twin.

Do you know which address Arthur was born at? I'm trying to narrow down the possibilities. They weren't at Reform Street in 1891.
