Well you could put your mighty brain into looking for my blinky great uncles. James Broad b 1859 George Broad b 1856 both born in St Mawgan, Cornwall, sometimes recorded as just Mawgan, or Mawgan in Pydar, or St Columb. I know James was alive in 1925 as he was mentioned as a beneficiary of his sister's estate when she died that year. Last sighting in Mawgan in 1871. George was last seen working as a gardener in Cowbridge, Glamorgan, in 1881. I have been unable to find their deaths or either of them in 1891/1901 despite looking for them just by surname & place/date of birth or first name ditto, as Jas/James or Geo/George etc. nell

Unknown Report 13 Aug 2005 15:41

Jess And I thought you liked a challenge! The cat is probably one of the many Toms in 1881, married to Kitty, children called Tabitha and Percy (mistranscribed Purrsy). nell

Ellen

Ellen Report 13 Aug 2005 15:48

If you find my Jane and Edward Proctor (b1863 and 1860) in 1891 I would be eternally grateful. They marry in 1884, disappear, then dont start producing children until 1896. Puzzled Ellen

Unknown Report 13 Aug 2005 15:53

Jess As you will see if you look at my plea, I already have George 1881, its James that's missing. But George has gone by 1891 into the ether. Thanks for the compliment, but I think its all the fault of our relatives for changing their names/lying about their ages/moving around and then having dozy enumerators who invent places and transcribers who can't read! Found Tom & Kitty yet then? I know purrfectly well you haven't. nell

Hi Jess how about Elizabeth Backhouse 1859/60 churchtown/north meols/southport lancashire. Found 1851 and 61 in north meols then 1871 in Blackburn lancashire next 1891 married to john james jones living back in Blackburn lancashire after marriage in Wolverhampton Staffs (God knows how she ended up here)still in Blackburn in 1901 Problem; were was she between 71 and 91 I have tried every variation of Elizabeth and Backhouse. date and place of birth only etc but still she eludes me. Do you accept the challenge or does housework suddenly sound like a better option Susan

The Bag Report 13 Aug 2005 16:06

Mike

Mike Report 13 Aug 2005 16:09
