There are no deaths for a Thomas Stokoe between 1881 and 1891 in their 20's or 30's!!! (FreeBMD shows about 98-100% complete for these years.) Merry |

You ASSUME they married.... as yet neither we nor you can ascertain that fact...maybe they didnt They are going to be in Scotland then (aren't they? ) in 1881? |

On the 1891 Census it states that Sarah is his wife so I know he must have married her previous to that. He was married to Catherine Garvin in 1881 so it must have been between 1881 and 1891 that he married Sarah. On the 1901 Census she has Thomas age 9. 1905 He married again, (busy man) to Amy Jane Barrie, maiden name Lawrence. I know that Hugh's parents were Hugh Sinclair and Christina Munro but need to know if this one at Newcastle is the same one or just a red herring. On the 1881 Census it states that Catherine and Hugh had 2 sons Hugh age 2. John age11months and on the 1891 Census there is a Hugh age 12. John age 10 and William age 8 all born in Scotland so think these might be the sons of Catherine and Hugh. Sorry this is such a mish mash of names Ken. |

There was a really long thread on the RO board about this SAGA!! (but I can't find it now.) The potential groom (with no cert at the mo) married three times. The first and third marriages were in Scotland. The problem is that Hugh vanishes from the Scots records at the same time as this guy appears in the English records, but Ken needs some way to confirm that they ARE all the same person. The Scottish death cert for Hugh only mentions two wives (remember Scots certs have that on - good isn't it!!). Thomas (the child born in 1892) is (or might me) Kens direct ancestor. (Oh, whoops, he said that at the top - his father!!) Um....trying to remember what else there was ..... Merry |

Jess - I think they would be in Scotland in 1881 as the son John is born 'about 1881' in Scotland on the 1891, and son William born 'about 1883' in Scotland. Kate. |

Sorry to say that even if you get the marriage certificate it will not tell you the name of Hugh's mother - unless he got married in Scotland. But if you are certain it is the same Hugh who was married to Catherine Garvin, can't you just get the marriage certificate for his first marriage to get his father's name? Kate. |

Tinsmith Journeyman. Mother Sarah Sinclair late Stokoe formerly Ord. I have tried all variations of Sinclair, Stokoe, and Ord but to no avail. I know the marriage wasn't before 1881 as Hugh Sinclair was on the Census married to Catherine Garvin. It was also before 1891 as Hugh was then married to Sarah. They are also on the 1901 Census with Thomas. I need the marriage cert. to find if Hugh's parents are Hugh Sinclair and Christina Munro so I will know if Thomas is my Father. Can anyone throw any light on this dim subject ! Ken |
