At last!! After five years of head-banging, crying and screaming - Ive found him, my 2 x GGF James Holden, with his first (unknown) wife and child!!!Hurray - must go and let him out from under the stairs, where I incarcerated him a month ago, for his persistent hideyness. I found him on the 1851, in a totally unexpected place (but one where I have looked many times before). And, I think I already have a record of his marriage (just need to shift some suitcases, tennis rackets, hockey sticks etc) from the desperate days when I collected EVERY James Holden I could find. Now all I need to do is find out: 1. What he was doing living in Bolton. 2. What his wife died of, and when. 3. What his daughter died of, and when. 4. Why he is calling himself a Factory Engineer! (But its him alright, he is the only one I have ever found, right age, right birthplace). Oh, and then I still have to find out who his parents were - but hey,its taken me five years to get this far! Pat Well, you can if you want, but there are several suitcases full of them!!! Do you know how many James Holdens there were, living/born in Lancashire in the 1800s????Literally hundreds. They all married a woman called either Mary or Ellen. Olde Crone |

Merry I said more than oops after sending for the cert and finding him with his father on a previous census - and then finding him on a later census, STILL with his father, wife and child...and knowing he wasnt the right one, cos MINE was also on the later census, if that makes sense, with new wife and child somewhere else. Merry I cannot describe to you what I am going to do to this man when I find him (not on a family site, anyway). I am at present laboriously working through every James Holden marriage in Lancashire from 1840 to 1858, trying to cross-match with dead wives. Needless to say its not working very well and there is of course no guarantee that he married in Lancashire or that his first wife died there, either. Olde Crone |
