Jess, in the 1881 I have him as an agricultural labourer, and in the 1901 he is down as a shepherd. But it is the same person. Gloria xx

If my censuses are right then this would appear to be the birth. Name: Tomlin, Daniel Record Type: Births Quarter: March Year: 1879 District: Hemel Hempstead County: Hertfordshire Volume: 3a Page: 485 Gloria x

no Jess found that one his mother is Elizabeth. Jeanette I thought someone found him in 1901 a visitor and a cartman

Hang on.. i could send for both those birth cert ...and both of their fathers would still be called daniel , wouldn't they? eerrmmmmmmmm!! Gloria - i think yours isnt right...I think, (not sure what i think any more!!)

Gloria's 1881 census has them living Tring, that's why I went with the 1880 birth.

Wilstone is 2 miles north of Tring and Tring is in Berkhampstead district.....but I don't know how near the edge it is! Merry

Merry they are all within spitting distance - i was brought up in Berkhamsted - (which seems more luck than judgement) Im going to print the whole lot off and chew on it for a while. thanks all

Actually - best laid plans and all that - am going to study it today when i get back from my computer course - O know which i'd rather be doing though! Who thought computer course was a good idea? Mmmm Jess , back later
