Ermm... And what about some of the names given in the last few years by ''celebrities'' to their children? Romeo and Cruz are just the recent ones. Actually, my favourite historical name, so far, turned up when I was following up a query on this board... Rosie was the daughter of Julia LUSTY and Hugh TROLLOPE My husband said they should have hyphenated their surnames! Christine PS - I suspect that *dog in Wales was really something like Caradog? PPS - Great thread, Jess!

Incidentally, it occurs to me that those number-names are really no different from the Roman names (some of which get used now) like: Octavius/a Septimus/a Sextus/a Quintus/a [Quartus/a] Tertius/a And I came across someone quite recently with the name (not sure how it's rendered in written English, I only heard it spoken) ''Wahid'' - it's the Arabic for 1.
