I'm trying to find a marriage between Job Hann and Bridget Malloy/Melloy in 1854/5 in Dorset. I have searched all the usual places like BMD, LDS, Ancestry etc. but with no luck. Just wondered if one of you super sleuths out there would be more succesful. I would be very grateful for your help. Thanks, Sue.

Freebmd is not complete, Ancestry takes its info from Freebmd and LDS does not have civil registration records. So you will need to look in the GRO marriage indexes. These are complete and you can see them free oat a library/records office which has them on microfiche or you can pay to see them on www* 1837online *com. Replace * with . nell

Nell, I've tried 1837 but it comes up with no match can be found.

If you want to start with justy those two years you can actually view the pages via FreeBMD for nothing!! Go to the search page Click Main Page at the bottom left Click View Images Fill in the boxes go to each quarter in turn and you will brobably have to download a few pages before you hit the right one....I would try for Job Hann first as her name has variable spellings. If you don't have any luck with those two years then you will need to work outwards years by year. Have you got Job in 1841?? Benjamin; HANN; 35; Publican; Yes; HO 107/291/9 Elizabeth; HANN; 35; ; Yes; HO 107/291/9 Mary; HANN; 10; ; Yes; HO 107/291/9 >>>> Job; HANN; 8; ; Yes; HO 107/291/9 Elizabeth; HANN; 7; ; Yes; HO 107/291/9 Martha; HANN; 6; ; Yes; HO 107/291/9 Caroline; HANN; 5; ; Yes; HO 107/291/9 Solomon; HANN; 4; ; Yes; HO 107/291/9 Benjamin; HANN; 3; ; Yes; HO 107/291/9 Sampson; HANN; 2; ; Yes; HO 107/291/9 Guess that's him?? When you say you have tried 1837online but it says no matches can be found....Do you mean there are no marriages for a Job Hann in the four quarters for 1854 and for 1855? Merry

Unknown Report 27 Dec 2005 23:54

1837online doesn't say 'no matches' it gives you the pages for each quarter for you to check yourself. nell

Does the familyrelatives . org site have more info than free BMD? And does the site work these days??

Merry

Merry Report 28 Dec 2005 00:08

Sorry Nell.....just my stupid sense of humour! Family Relatives and 1837online have the full GRO indexes. FreeBMD is an ongoing transcription with gaps. To see what's done and what's missing go to the FreeBMD Main Page, then Information and then Coverage Charts. As I said before, you can view untranscribed pages for free via FreeBMD, but it's not as quick as the pay-per-view sites. Merry

On 1837, I entered the dates, from and to. The first 2 letters of the surname and the christian name. I get a reply back of There are no entries that match the search criteria that you have entered. Sue.

I didn't search as I have no credits, but I filled in the boxes for Mar 1854-Dec 1955 marriages and Job Hann and it has responded with pages for all 8 quarters. nell

How odd! - if you just put HA in the surname space the message about no matches comes up, but if you put Han or Hann then the pages for each quarter are listed. Must be a 'blip' in the system as I'm sure usually you can search with just the first two letters.

Sue and Judith 1837online now uses full surnames in the search, also full first names and not just first few letters as before.

I checked the 4Q's of 1854 and Q1 of 1855 last night on FreeBMD and viewed the images. There were no Job Hann's in any of those .................... Then I was too tired to look any more! Merry

Well I'm sorry Sue but either they are mistranscribed, didn't get married or married after the first baby was born:)) I have checked on 1837 for Job Hann from Jan 1851 to Dec 1856 and have cross checked any vague possibilities but no luck. Chrissie
