I think that marriage is spot on. Bear with me this takes some explaining. Here is a suitable birth record for Emily: Name: LAY_ELL, Emily Sarah Hannah Record Type: Births Quarter: June Year: 1862 District: Rochford County: Essex Volume: 4a Page: 181 and it is possible to track her and her mother through the census. 1861: Mum and Dad no kids yet. Name Estimated Birth Year Birthplace Relationship Civil Parish County James Lazzell abt 1837 Bowers, Essex, England Head Rawreth Essex Emma Lazzell abt 1842 Widford, Essex, England Wife Rawreth Essex Henry Claydon abt 1842 Hockley, Essex, Lodger Rawreth Essex William Carter abt 1842 Rayleigh, Essex, Lodger Rawreth Essex Source information: RG9/1083 Registration district: Rochford Sub-registration district: Rayleigh ED: 5 Folio: 73 Page: 5 Household schedule number: 19 It appears that James dies sometime before 1870 because by the 1871 census Emily and her sister Alice are listed as stepdaughters. Name Estimated Birth Year Birthplace Relationship Civil Parish or TownshipCounty William Musgrove abt 1843 Bartfield, Essex, Head Orsett Essex Emma Musgrove abt 1842 Wickford, Essex, Wife Orsett Essex Emily Lazell abt 1862 Rawreth, Essex, Stepdaughter Orsett Essex Alice Lazell abt 1866 Mucking, Essex, Stepdaughter Orsett Essex Arthur Musgrove abt 1870 Orsett, Essex, Son Orsett Essex Source information: RG10/1654 Registration district: Orsett Sub-registration district: Orsett ED: 1 Folio: 9 Page: 10 Mum Emma had remarried a few months earlier: Name Year Quarter Record Type District County Layzell, Emma 1870 March Marriages Orsett Essex MUSGROVE, William 1870 March Marriages Orsett Essex Name: Layzell, Emma Record Type: Marriages Quarter: March Year: 1870 District: Orsett County: Essex Volume: 4a Page: 137 By the time of the 1881 census Emily and her sister Alice has assumed the MUSGROVE surname: Estimated Birth Year Birthplace Relationship Residence William Musgrove abt 1845 Woodham, Essex, Head Baker St, Orsett, Essex Emma Musgrove abt 1843 Wickford, Essex, Wife Baker St, Orsett, Essex Emily Musgrove abt 1862 Rawreth, Essex, Daughter Baker St, Orsett, Essex Alice Musgrove abt 1866 Mucking, Essex, Daughter Baker St, Orsett, Essex Arthur Musgrove abt 1871 Orsett, Essex, Son Baker St, Orsett, Essex Ada Musgrove abt 1874 Orsett, Essex, Daughter Baker St, Orsett, Essex And where was Emily Musgrove aka Layzell living in 1881 - just around the corner from Arthur Wiggins. Now the unresolved question is why did they go London to get married? No idea, but perhaps the marriage certificate will shed some light on it. Pete

jess, laindon hills is langdon hills. louisdon could possibly be basildon which is 2 miles from laindon/langdon. all the places you have listed on this thread are within a 6 mile radius of langdon hills.' apart from fulham, thats confusing. little berry farm still exists.,and is in langdon hills. good luck with your search, jane.
