why would someone be listed as head when he is at

hi Ian its Mary his wife born 1834 Somerset, Emily his daughter born 1857 St Pancras Middlesex ,Alfred William his son born 1859 Ramsgate Kent I must go to bed now dont worry if you are busy I will have another look tomorrow, but thanks if you do get time to look

thanks very much Kathleen I will have to have another look for the family then, I did get told that someone in the family thought they had seperated and his wife went off with someone else,

There are single strokes before and after his name, indicating that he is on his own. The address is 23 White X Place. Not sure why the X is there. Kath. x

What are the approx ages of the children and wife? There are a lot to choose from! Ian

there doesnt seem to be any strokes its 1871 Jesse Kemp age 42 Middlesex Tottenham R.G10/440 he is a Fur Skin Dyer thanks, he should be with his wife Mary and at least 2 children Alfred and Emily I cannot find them anywhere else

i don't any of us have as we need age and place of birth or page and folio number next to where you got the RG number if on own there will be 2// lines by name top and below this tells you family have finished if / line means they share house. Jeanette

Quite possibly because his wife and children, if any, were absent from the house on the evening the census was taken. He is shown as married, as opposed to a widower or single, so I think thats your best bet. Ian

That's what the image says. Perhaps his wife and any kids they may have were visiting relatives at the time of the census. He is definitely on his own as he is in the middle of the page. Kath. x

That is quite normal, often seen, but IF THE ENTRY IS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE CLICK ON NEXT PAGE AS THE REST WILL BE THERE> Maurice

yes he would still be called head even on own need to put page and folio number to look properly. or tell us age and birth place some times ancestry do cut off families if they are bottem of page Jeanette

in the 1871 census I have a Jesse Kemp without his wife and kids yet he is listed as Head ,can someone please look at image and tell me if thats right or have I missed something R.G 10/440
