Somewhat coincidentally, I found out that one of my relatives served for a time as a housemaid for the then Earl Spencer. How exciting! Well, it added a bit of variety to the family's history, but that's about it. I feel sure that most people researching their family history just go where it takes them; and I have been perfectly happy to discover joiners, servants, ag labs, and fishermen. Incidentally, I have no idea who 'Fern & Phil' are, and is 'Jordon' really spelled like that? Since nothing's driving me to search for a royal connection, I didn't bother completing the survey!

Oh, wonderful! I needed something to laugh about. I notice that this time they have not left us anywhere to make our own unstructured comments (so they did learn something from the christmas survey then!). I am sorely tempted to fill it in, just so that I can say that the Royal I admire most is Richard the Lionheart because he was in touch with his people! (How many weeks was it he actually spent in this country during his reign?). Still, without the possibility of adding one's own little variations, it loses half the fun. 'I want to be related to royalty so that I can throw away the red tinsel g-string and dine at Claridges wearing a purple velvet diamond-encrusted one instead'. These multi-choice things are soooooooooo boring. Tina

Well all I can say is: what a load of bo***cks!!!!! Do they think we are all so stupid? Has this become a Chav site? seems so to me by the questions. Margaret

its not April 1st is it? I really hope no one bothered to fill it in. Do they really think we sit here researching for hours in the hopes of fame and grandeur! I hope this isn't treasonable, but l'd rather not be related to the Royal family. My family history seems to be far more interesting than theirs. Okay, we haven't got their dosh, but l,ve grown very fond of my ancestors.

Margaret, I think you summed it up very well! Chavs Reunited! ;-) Cheers, Horatia (dressed from head to toe in Burberry)! ;-) ;-) I think they've got a bloomin cheek. Those questions are soooo patronising and seem to imply that they see us as a load of starstruck, royalty hunting morons! How dare they treat me like a Chav - even if I do have an Australian Convict on my tree! He wasn't a guttersnipe - he was a founding father of Western Australia! :-)

Vicky - believe me, diamonds would be bliss after wearing a red tinsel one - you have absolutely no idea how scratchy tinsel can be, and the straggly shiny bits fall off and get caught up in all ones delicate little places! No, GR have convinced me, it just has to be the upper class version from now on. Although, come to think of it, Horatia may have something with her Burberry....................... and yes, ermine lined would definitely add a certain cachet. Hmm - back to the sewing machine I think! Tina

My great grandparents ran the Crown Inn in Kelston and I have a photo of one of mum's cousins who was a plant scientist showing the Queen one of his cabages any good. I have actually found a couple of relatives who married into the aristocracy and have found trawling through pages of Debretts extremely boring.
