This thread is not to be replied to........ I am just moaning.......... Had someone contact me through this site and they are my distant cousin. Through no fault of theirs i have their line down as far as their grandparents on my tree and they kindly gave me the names of their parents and themselves....so that was an extra three names for me. I, meanwhile, prepared a gedcom of 280 or so people and a report of the same from my home tree. Sent these plus a list of documents and photos as the other person had expressed a wish to know what I had. Also sent a listing of all sources for every event including over 500 GRO references!! (LOL OK so I get a bit over the top sometimes!!!!) No response from them. I wrote to ask if they had received it, after three or four weeks. They said , ''Yes.'' That's it. Merry

Sue in Somerset Report 6 Feb 2006 22:58

I don't understand people like that but the same sort of thing has happened to me. On a couple of occasions I've printed out a part of my tree......several sheets of paper and stuck it together. I've written loads of notes and information and given it to distant relations I've been put in touch with. I didn't even get a thank you from one! I gave them a tree going back to about 1500 and NOTHING! I suppose we just have to think about all the nice connections this family history hobby brings. Sue

My goody-goody hubby says it's because they are so overwhelmed they forget to say thanks (or ever speak to you again!!)....so it's not their fault, but mine!! I think he is just trying to ensure his dinner is on the table! Merry

Merry (Would have thought that G-string was going a bit rusty by now?) Why not message them again, saying you have found some more stuff you forgot to send the first time. Give everyone on your tree a second and thrid spouse and another raft of kids. Get the kids to marry their cousins - giving firm dates and places, which you will of course have filched from the IGI. Have one or two names of famous murderers - Crippen, perhaps? Hitler????. Have everybody convert to some obscure religious sect - how about the moonies? Send them some photos of people you found in your local rag - suitable renamed, of course. And you can photocopy some of my (many) wrong certs. Or you could just send a REALLY RUDE email. Olde Crone

Thank you all for your support! Now that I am sober and have had time to think about how I feel, I realise it's not really the lack of THANKS that is the problem........ It's the apparant lack of interest!! (''So you believe everything I have given you without question??'') I suppose I can remember how I felt when I was given a load of data from a new relation.......almost annoyed, because I like to find things out for myself rather than have it handed ''on a plate''......But I did look at the stuff before I added anything to my tree - the new relation had given me quite a lot of source info, but I still asked her some questions.........I suppose it could have easily been taken the wrong way, as if I was disbelieving, but I hope it was taken the right way, that I was just showing that I was looking properly at what I had been given!! Jess.....please could you NOT use words like ''feathers'' on my thread........you know it upsets Alter and makes him all ruffled!! Merry x

Merry, It seems we need an alternative saying .... it appears that horses hanging around by the water don't necessarily want to drink. Perhaps some people are just incapable of having a relationship ... just a short one would do. Have a similar situation - humungous extra special effort, bunged in post .... silence 2 weeks and counting! Same has happened after a PRO visit - fished stuff out, no great 'OMIGOSH' or anything, lucky to get a thank you. Luckily these are rare occurences - irritating, but rare - otherwise I wouldn't go on. You didn't accidentally drop any bits of tinsel in the envelope did you? Maybe they were worried. Jx

Macbev Report 7 Feb 2006 10:39

I made some really nice family history calendars for my husband's cousins last Christmas - photos of ancestors, family estates, fold-out tree on the back page. The American cousin was ecstatic and sent a lovely 'thank you' email, the cousin in Brisbane (eventually) rang, with apologies and among other things , invited us to use his home as a base when touring his State later in the year - the local cousins, whom we see only at funerals......... deadly silence!! You can't win 'em all. If you can discover a connection to my Goulds, Merry, I'll send you chocolate coated brandied cumquats for Christmas. Bev from Perth

Jane

Jane Report 7 Feb 2006 13:57

Bev, What a marvellous idea! No, not the coated kumquats ... the CALENDAR!!! If I start now, I might even have it ready in time for next Christmas. How did you 'produce' it - did you get professional help? And was it very expensive? Regs Jane
