Sue in Somerset Report 7 Feb 2006 23:41

My 3x great grandfather tried to murder his wife. He was imprisoned for insanity. In the newspaper report my poor 3x great grandmother said she wasn't surprised because his brother had lived with them for 12 years and the brother was mad all that time! I spent ages yesterday looking up one of my family names in the Times online and discovered 7 of my ancestors from one family were transported within a short space of time for burglary.........hope it isn't hereditary. Like your Skeleton ours is still ongoing.... Actually its my husbands side, his family came from Amsterdam to london in 1863, Dutch Jews, my husbands Gr Grandfather Ben had an illegitamate daughter in 1881 but married the mother Bertha in 1884, my husbands grandfather David was born in 1886 being the third child, by 1891 the parents had split up and David was living with his Mother who was by now nearly blind and being kept with an 'allowance from the husband' who was by now shacking up with another women, they lived together as man and wife for more then 10 years, in 1900 David was sent away to kent for Military training and Ben remarried in 1901 stating he was now a Widow, No sign can be found of Bertha, Grandad David was disgusted at the way his mother was pushed aside and forgotten about when helpless and desperate and he was never to mention her name ever again, David left the Family and married in 1915 outside of the jewish faith and bought his family up outside of the faith too, I after a long search found relatives via this site too and they were over the moon, it was only after the question of religion came up did they stop answering any emails or phone calls actually hanging up on us, we are Catholics though non practicing and they are still Jewish, I have since found another a different relative of our 'branch' and asked them to try and contact the others 'Innocently', they too were blanked but were told they were not of the same family and that he must have got his tree wrong? So much for That Religion and their well Preached Morals? How stupid is that and frustrating, after 105 years we are left thinkng that something sinister happened to Gr grandmother Bertha.

my mother told me she was married once before my farther to a jack perry who had died in ww2 , but the shock came when i got my mum and dads wedding cert for on it .it said changed name by deed poll .to perry ,well after alot of prompting my of my familly who were trying hard to hide it from me , i found that she had been married twice before ,the second marrage had ended in divorce so she changed her name back to that of her former husband. the strange thing about all this is that the second husband a mr wooley had a disabled son ,who my mother would take me to visit and stay long weekend when i was only six yrs old ,whilst she was married to my dad but i knew him as frank perry .
