Esta, re your note below, I am 99% sure that's the one. Ive just looked and also listed is another son called Frederick and on the 1901 census my g/grandfather is listed with my g/father and one other member his brother and although its quite hard to read I think its Frederick. And also his fathers occupation looks like Chemical ??? well g/grandfather was an Dye/ink Merchant so that would fit wouldn't it? I wonder how I can find out any info on the business, off another trial. Thank you so much for all your help. Vanessa

Helen, Sorry one more question if that's ok. Why can't I view the full record all I get is the record card? And on the marriages registered it doesn't say who he married. Thanks Vanessa

Esta, Many thanks. You could be on to something because I've just noticed that my dads name is James Haworth Hampson, and on your search it says James H Hampson so could be H for Haworth and also my g/father was a George Hampson and on your search the head of the house is called George so he could be named after his g/father (if you follow)? However, this still doesn't help me finding the maiden name of my g/grandmother or does it? Vanessa

Helen, It could be if James wasn't called James which I am finding with my other members eg William John was always called Jack. This information should hopefully be on my g/fathers birth ceritifcate when it comes. Although on the Census it just says James and my dad is called James I presuming after his g/father. I'm so confused!! Thanks Vanessa

Would do normally but full of Flu and on loads of lemsips instead> Have you searched Ancestry uk for th marriage, quiet a lot of James Hampson's in the Lancashire area for possible dates that they could have married, but it will keep you busy until the cert comes through and you may find the maiden name before you get the cert. Happy hunting

Think I'm having a mad moment myself, just re-read your post and realised that Hampson is her married name!! duh! Time to give it a rest for today!!!

Vanessa Report 7 Feb 2006 18:57

Joanne, Thanks for your information. But she wouldn't be a Hampson unless she married at 15 and would be listed as wife not daughter, does this make sense or am I still being thick? It's her maiden name I'm after. Vanessa
