The Times, Saturday, Feb 04, 1922; pg. 12; Issue 42947; has his obituary. He was created a baronet in 1918 but he had no children so the title died with him. nell

I am bowing already. Have you tried googling his name plus geneology. I think you have to be a lord to make Burke's peerage. It is also worth looking for a will with that amount of money. I found him on the official role of Baronetage. Sir Edward Broadhurst of North Rode Cheshire 4th Feb 1918-2nd Feb 1922. Also came across lot of discussion in Manchester paper about plans to build on Broadhurst park and playing fields bequeathed by Sir Edward and plans for an archeological dig there. Also sculpture in exhibition bequeathed to Manchester art gallery by Sir Edward.

The details of his will is in one of the cuttings........He left about £150,000 Merry

Dame Dea (your worshipful graciousness) Have you looked on the Manchester City Website? (I have lost all my favourites, so cannot give you the exact addy). They have lots of biographies on their Site of local influential businessmen - found mine on there. Be careful though, the biographies are somewhat, erm, loose - lots of the facts didnt check out, but enough to give clues. Incidentally, your Grace Dame Dea, MY rellies have lived at Old Rode for centuries, and the other lot, from Chorley, mixed and mingled with the Tootells no end. There certainly will be Merry, Unfortunately I am now 'snowed under' by piles of REALLY interesting information and million of Tootells to sort so it will take some while before the celebrations. Thanks for everyone's help. Dea x

Dame Dea Yep, I have married-in Tootells from Chorley area. When I was ploughing the Chorley PRs I got side-tracked with the Tootells, mainly because the name was never spelled the same way twice! And, you do realise, these Tootells are a branch-off from the Darwen Tootells? As for the Broadhursts, I think I have two married-ins. One is possibly, ahem, born the wrong side of the blanket, as Broadhurst is a middle name. I shall go and have a scrape about.... Now, about that grace-and-favour apartment... Olde Crone
