If the 1861 census was taken on 7th April and Ellenor said she was 63, her year of birth would depend on whether she had her 63rd birthday at the beginning of 1861, or sometime after April 1860, so her birth year would be either 1797 or 1798, depending on this. Kath. x

Thanks again Kathleen So his wife was Ellenor born 1797

KathleenBell Report 26 Feb 2006 16:24

The birth year may well be 1802. I usually find that if Ancestry say the birth is about a particular year then it is more often than not the year before. Kath. x

So it's 1803 rather than 1802 .... good work Kathleen x Elaine ;-)

Can't find him in the 1881 census, but there are 6 deaths for a John Wallace on Ancestry between 1871 and 1881. This one would be about the right age:- Name: WALLACE, John Record Type: Deaths Age at death: 72 Quarter: March Year: 1874 District: Cockermouth County: Cumbria Cumberland Volume: 10b Page: 397 Kath. x
