Angie Your family tree sounds miles more interesting than mine! Glad to hear you're not continuing with that particular family trait ;) Can you tell I'm stuck on my tree by any chance? :)

And I've found a Flora Sennett in Birmingham Workhouse with a 2 wk old William Ernest Sennett. Again, only a maybe but if daddy is in prison and mummy is very heavily pregnant there wouldn't be a lot of income coming in. One of the options for Thomas' spouse is a Flora Vale. Once you get Annie's birth cert, hopefully all will become clear.

If you google (or y a h o o or whatever you prefer) cottage homes, it comes up with articles about early childrens homes. Maybe it was that? Good luck researching it. I'd be ordering the birth certificate to see who the parents were and then try and find what happened to them.

Bacardi

Bacardi Report 26 Feb 2006 17:16

so does it mean they were taken into care it be interesting to get annies birth cert to see who her parents were sorry to sound dumb angie x

Rachel

Rachel Report 26 Feb 2006 17:12

If you look at the description given by the enumerator (click on Coleshill at the top of the image, then District Cottage Homes) it says - for children removed by Birmingham Board of Guardians from their Birmingham Workhouse. Sounds quite interesting, my tree never gets any good stuff!

Inmate just means they lived there. Nowadays it has sinister connotations, with workhouses and prisons, and lunatic asylums, but it just meant they lived there. nell
