Yes, he is George Chambers on the census. It's the transcript that's wrong. Merry

I don't think this Chambers family like taking part in the census: 1881 George Chambers abt 1844 Lincoln, England Brother 10 Moor St, Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England George H. Chambers abt 1869 Lincoln, England Nurse Child 10 Moor St, Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England George W. Chambers abt 1876 Lincoln, England Nephew 10 Moor St, Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England Joseph Chambers abt 1841 Lincoln, England Brother 10 Moor St, Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England Eliza Graby abt 1834 Lincoln, England Wife 10 Moor St, Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England George Graby abt 1831 Lincoln, England Head 10 Moor St, Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England Emma Hopley abt 1879 Lincoln, England Nurse Child 10 Moor St, Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England Lomas Wright abt 1877 Lincoln, England Nurse Child 10 Moor St, Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England That's him down as brother, at the top. No wife (obviously one before Martha), no marital status recorded. A couple of the children have been farmed out to relatives. Merry

George is a Chambers. Ancestry have transcribed his whole family as Gresham on the 1891 census. it's a mistake. Merry

Thanks Merry, i think we are getting dangerously close to another Lilly here, and here mob spread across Lincs and Notts area with similiar names(George Martha and Frederick abound plus a smattering of Eliza***t) Don't expend any more time on it for now, will soon have another cert and will try to decipher what i have. Thanks Glen

I bet this is George's first marriage, as his daughter was a niece to the Broughton's in 1881: Marriages Sep 1874 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Broughton Ellen Lincoln 7a 756 Chambers George Lincoln 7a 756 Is he recorded as a widower on the cert you have? No nothing recorded. Strangely i seem to have an Elmer child with Martha's sister in the 1901. Her sister was also married in 1885,the child born in 1888. Children of the correct names predate and postdated to this Elmer child. Martha is my g g/m,(at least i thought she was)deefinately getting to the open lettter stage.
