Has anyone else had money taken from their credit card by GR without authority? I noticed that on the card I have previously paid my subs with GR took £5 a few days ago. My subs are not due until 9 April. I asked support why they had taken money and their reply was that my subs are not due until 9 April and that they will take them then. They say nothing about the money they have already taken. I've e-mailed them again but feel alarmed. Beware. Roger GC

Roger £5 seems an odd amount. The continuous membership costs £7-50 and annual renewal costs £9-95 so why £5? Heather

Heather, Got some bad news I am afraid. Since mid-Feb, continuous membership has cost the same as new. I queried this when GR asked me for £9.95, and they confirmed that the increase was correct. Liz

You haven't bought credits on the 1901 census site, have you? Or joined Friends Reunited? Kate.

Hi Liz, I renewed last week, went into account details, changed to continuous membership and the renewal price changed to £7-50. There's a thread on General about it. Heather

Hi again. bit red faced when I saw Kate's reply. Bought some 1901 credits last week but didn't realise it was GR who took the money as I didn't link through them. Many thanks for the replies and all I have to do now is sit back and wait for the price hike when my subs are due next month. Roger GC

Heather I changed to continuous a couple of weeks ago because people were saying the price was £7.50. However, there was nothing there to tell me the cost. Did it appear on the page when you did it?? Lynne

Lynne I'm sure it came up with £7-50 but can't remember exactly where, lol. I went to my account details and changed to continuous and then I went to renew membership. Heather

My renewal is in a couple of weeks. I asked GR when had the subscription been increased to £9.95 and this is the response I received: 'Thank you for your email. We tested various prices through a survey of our customers via the website and the feedback showed that an annual subscription of £9.95 was still a very fair price considering the many new services that have been added to the site. I hope this helps.' So it looks as though it's that price for everyone now. Carol

I got charged £7.50 for renewing my membership. Why is it not the same price for everyone? It would be much fairer and save on people e-mailing gr with queries.

I have continuous membership (3rd year on here)- previously notifed several weeks ago my membership was up for renewal shortly.(did not renew immediately, as I know if you renew too soon ,you loose days!) Membership expired yesterday & they emailed to say they were charging me £7.50 (which is what I have always paid) they said they were unable to charge me for my renewal as my expiry date had changed. (had to go back in today & change card details expiry date ) then immediately received email to confirm renewal & receipt no. I am now waiting until next months bank statement to see if it was £7.50 they took. I do think it would be fairer & easier for everyone, if GR charged us the same membership price.

I am NOT on continuous membership - but have had reminder with £9.95 ?? Just went in and changed details to Continuous membership - details remained same - £9.95. The ONLY difference is that I do NOT pay by C card. maybe this is the difference ?? No way on this earth am I paying £9.95 when others are paying £7.50.

I agree with derbyshire dancer, why should some people pay £7.50 and others £9.95 or whatever it is. It seems as if a figure is just decided dependant on how long you have been on here. So do members of 3 years or more get special priveledges. i remember when this site has around 5,000 members and charged a fiver. The price should be the same regadless of if you have just joined or joined 3 years ago. I know I pay £7.50 and I would obviously like to keep the price down to as low as possible. There should also be a trial period like on ancestry and if you don't join after the expired trial then you don't get on. This would hopefully cut down on people, asking for lookups and sort the genuine genes people out. I would also like to know what extra priveledges genes have put on here, the site has not changed much to me. Maybe added new thread boards, hot matches? Is genes funding the other sites that are perhaps not doing too well? (Dating? Jobs Board? and Connections?) Catherine 'off me soap box now'
