Kate - Sorry, there's me getting a touch excited here that I might have made a break through lol, I know from what my dad tells me that there was an Emily Elliott, as he remembers seeing her at his dads funeral in 1960. So im assuming she might have been younger. Brenda - Thank you, but the birth cert I have says Henry George Elliott born 1898 Dec, and his parents are William James Elliott and Ellen Annie Elliott nee Bowen of 23 Andersons Walk, Lambeth. So im pretty sure its the same family but as Kate says the enumerator has made a few mistakes. Thanks Debs x

Debs, I wasn't looking for that marriage! I knew you had already found it; I was trying to find out whether Ellen / Nellie could have married again after Henry was born and before the 1901 census. Kate.

Debbie Report 17 Mar 2006 13:38

Kate, As you can see she called herself Nellie when she married, on her birth reg and Harry's birth cert she called herself Ellen!!! Debs x

Kate, Thank you once again.. I have no details of my grt grandparents unfortunately, all I know is my granddad was Henry but it was shortened to Harry, on his marriage cert it says Father William Edward Elliott deceased occ wheelwright.. this was Feb 1931 He died yrs before I was born and my dad doesnt remember that much as his dad was away a lot in the army. Having the name William as a father I applied for a birth cert, same yr same area same fathers name apart from the middle name on the birth cert says James, and that the occ was carman not wheelwright, thats how I found the Bowen family name. This is the marriage Surname First name(s) District Vol Page -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marriages Jun 1898 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOWEN Nellie Annie St. Saviour 1d 216 Dear Dulcie Clara St. Saviour 1d 216 Demmon Alfred Frederick St Saviour 1d 216 Elliott William James St Saviour 1d 216 Debs x

No, can't find a marriage or a death between 1898 and 1901 for her in the name Elliot either. But I just had a horrible thought - what if she was calling herself Annie in 1901?! I think I will have to throw the towel in now! Kate.

Kate

Kate Report 17 Mar 2006 13:29

I think it may very well be him. As for his parents, I have been looking at Ellen / Nellie / Eleanor Elliot(t)s but can't spot her. And without any info about where and when William was born, it is impossible to look for him. I didn't find a death or marriage for Ellen / Nellie on FreeBMD between 1898 and 1901 yet, although I haven't tried Elliot with just one 't' yet! Have you tried looking for Emily's birth at all, or are there too many Emily Elliotts to choose from? Kate.

Jim - thank you, bit early here and maybe I didnt explain it quite right, are you on the same line here as Kate in the fact that the enumerator has copied the name wrong? if you look you can see he has made quite a few little mistakes? Kate - im with you on this I think that maybe he has made a mistake, but that doesnt tell me where his parents are.. Am I on the right track? Debs x

Kate

Kate Report 17 Mar 2006 13:08

I think I can guess why it says Edward instead of Henry; the enumerator just copied the name from the wrong line, cos remember his uncle Edward is on the line above. It does look as though the enumerator was having a bad day, since he wrote George's name down as Stephen and had to correct it! FreeBMD is on a bit of a go-slow at the moment... Kate.

Right, I think I understand now, sorry. Just looking on FreeBMD now... Kate.

Can i put them all together; 1901 census View Record Ellen Bowen abt 1879 Pimlico, London, England Wife Lambeth London View Record John G Bowen abt 1878 Lambeth, London, England Head Lambeth London View Record Lizzie Bowen abt 1900 Lambeth, London, England Daughter Lambeth London Record Edward Bowen abt 1882 Lambeth, London, England Son Lambeth London View Record George J Bowen abt 1857 Lambeth, London, England Head Lambeth London View Record Maria Bowen abt 1860 Camberwell, London, England Wife Lambeth London View Record Edward Elliott abt 1899 Lambeth, London, England Grandson Lambeth London

Kate, I think your right, the reason being that my Ellen was born 1876 and this one 1879.. I think I found the birth ref for Lizzie and she was born in Lambeth Jun qu 1899 so they are a touch out there but that wouldnt give Ellen time to have another one after Henry being born Dec 1898 would it? Now do you think that Henry is being called Edward - not sure why, but is then living for some reason with his grandparents? also I know he had a sister named Emily though not sure if she was older or younger! Thank you Debs x

Kate

Kate Report 17 Mar 2006 12:59

Oh, right, I get it, John, Ellen and Lizzie are on the previous page! So John is probably Ellen Elliott's brother, and this Ellen is Ellen Elliott's sister-in-law. Kate.

Hi Phoenix, Henry was my grandad, he married in 1931 and died in 1960, I cant find him with a mother named Ellen or a father named William anywhere, the reason I hit on the address search was because I have the birth cert saying that the address is 23 and thats where he was born.. What do you think? He married and died in Lambeth and these are the only ones in that area I can find. Debs x

 Debbie

Debbie Report 17 Mar 2006 12:57

Kate, This is what baffles me: Henry George Elliott was born at 23 Andersons Wlk and mother Ellen A Elliott nee Bowen.. Same age as Edward, the page before Maria and George is still no 23 Andersons Walk and thats where I have found them.. Maybe im thinking too much into Bowen and Elliott and the address but something doesnt seem quite right? Debs x

Phoenix

Phoenix Report 17 Mar 2006 12:56

Before you go too far down this line.... Henry isn't there. Have you found a Henry anywhere in 1901? Or his parents? Or a death?

 Debbie

Debbie Report 17 Mar 2006 12:54

Jim, Your right it is them, that spelling mistake makes sense as I have been looking for them and couldnt find them, Thank you.. Any ideas if Henry could be Edward but living in the same house with his mother upstairs or downstairs?? If so any ideas about why Ellen is married to a John Bowen and NOT William Elliott? Debs x

Kate

Kate Report 17 Mar 2006 12:54

Right... I've looked at the image for Edward Elliott, and he is the grandson of George J. Bowen and Maria. They have a son Edward Bowen age 17. As to why there are no other Elliotts in the household, either Edward lived with his grandparents, or was visiting them, and either his parents didn't live there, or they were away at the time. Or could even have been dead. Presumably Edward's mother was a Bowen who married an Elliott, but since this Edward would be about the same age as your Henry, I'm not sure that you have the right family. As for Ellen and John, I can't even see them on the image, so I guess she lived somewhere else? Kate.

Kate - I would have thought the same thing too, but both being called Ellen? Maybe. Not sure, but if so then where is Ellen/Nellie Annie Elliott nee Bowen? This is driving me crazy after yrs of searching for Henry I find that the birth cert I have ties in with details from that address in 1901.. Debs x

 Debbie

Debbie Report 17 Mar 2006 12:45

Jim - Thank you, that has to be the couple from 1901 as I know she was born abt 1876.. I think its too much of a coincidence that in no 23 Andersons Walk lived 2 Bowen families.. What I cant work out is.. do I have the right family and if so then why isnt anyone named Elliott apart from the grandson? Debs x
