In a muddle again.Double checking tree.....Grandmother, we thought was Kate Murton, can't find birth on ancestry, nearest is Kate Martin.... Have date of birth as 17th October 1884 in Norwich none but there is a Kate Martin then..............Married Alexander Leopald Jeary in Norwich about 1906.....Have I been barking up the wrong tree...........

Why did you think she was a Murton in the first place and where did you find her as a Martin - this is a pretty easy transcriber mistake or even on a certificate. What certificates do you have for them - the marriage?

You could try ordering the Martin birth cert with a checking point. Is Kate's mum Elizabeth Murton? (will prob be down as Martin, though!) Merry

It might be worth contacting the Norwich Registrars to check for a birth cert rather than the GRO. How do you have the October 17th birth date? Merry

Montmorency

Montmorency Report 29 Mar 2006 20:29

there are 5 grandkids in 1891, and another in 1881, Walter, 4 months. Looking at births in Norwich district 1880-1890 on FamilyRelatives, I can't match any of them except Alice. Looking at Martins, I can match all 6. Martin is a very common name, but 6 out of 6 is still good going. Could be you've hit on some sort of discovery, though I can't think what it would mean

Thank you Robin, been looking at my lot and something is not right, not sure what but I see your point, have you got Barbers in there too.......

Montmorency

Montmorency Report 29 Mar 2006 21:29

there are lots of Barbers, but haven't any names to look for. Can find births for Edith and Arthur as Murton.

Don' t know if this is any help. Steven Barber married Elizabeth Murton, she had 4 children with someone else, not found yet.edith married a Sidney Moore. Kate married my grandfather. Steven and Elizabeth had Arthur and Ernie in 1900, I think Ernie must have died as he is not in 1901 census, that is a far as I have got so far.....
