Jessie aka Maddies mate Report 9 Apr 2006 21:42

I need parish registers now for a few of mine, only one more side that I'm stuck on and I think a birth cert will cure the problem however I need to find their births first lol, now that is a problem but not one for a Sunday night Joanne

I'm sure many people have what I call 'adopted ancestors' because it's so easy to follow the wrong line that's why I always lookat it logically and buy the certs to confirm my tree..Slowly but surely I will get to the other parish records I need thats where serious work kicks in. Zoe

Thanks, I'm glad you looked at it logically for me and stopped me from having the wrong one's - last time I did that I didn't want to give the family up as I had grown attached to them, strange how you get attached to census records! Joanne

Yes found the one in 51 in Stannington, but not on the 41 census, will have to send for marriage cert to find out who his parents are, many thanks for all your help, it has stopped me from adding the wrong parents and siblings of Edwin Joanne

Yes that is them on Livesey street and I have th right family for the Carr's and one of the Rowbotham daughters - Lucy lives with her aunt Ann and hubby ' Gaunt' who is the sister of Elizabeth Carr in later census's and moves away with them. Taxi calling again daughter needs picking up and dropping elsewhere, so will be back in 20 mins Joanne

Yep looks like it. ~ I'd say that's a match Can you find a Edward/edwin in Stannigton? As the one you have in 1851 ~ your first post cannot be the Edwin you want as yours is already married to Elizabeth Zoe

Find similar Carr, Elizabeth of Crookes Moor, Ecclesall Bierlow. Aged 16 years. (Piece #1333/3, folio 22b, enumeration district 2.) Find similar Carr, John of Crookes Moor, Ecclesall Bierlow. Aged 40 years. (Piece #1333/3, folio 22b, enumeration district 2.) Has both Elizabeth and Margaret who you found in the census living in Stannington, I would say this is the Elizabeth Carr's family who married Edwin Rowbotham What do you think Joanne

Zoe Report 9 Apr 2006 20:28

This is the Edwin I think married Elizabeth Carr 1871 Ada Rowbotham abt 1869 Ecclesfield, Yorkshire, England Daughter Ecclesfield Yorkshire Edwin Rowbotham abt 1825 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Head Ecclesfield Yorkshire Elizabeth Rowbotham abt 1855 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Daughter Ecclesfield Yorkshire Emma Rowbotham abt 1862 Ecclesfield, Yorkshire, England Daughter Ecclesfield Yorkshire Fanny Rowbotham abt 1857 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Daughter Ecclesfield Yorkshire Isaac Rowbotham abt 1851 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Son Ecclesfield Yorkshire John Rowbotham abt 1852 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Son Ecclesfield Yorkshire Margaret Rowbotham abt 1867 Ecclesfield, Yorkshire, England Daughter Ecclesfield Yorkshire ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ and this is the one at carver street ~ No John**It's John Who is Your link right** 1871 Ann Eliz Rowbottom abt 1858 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Daughter Sheffield Yorkshire Edwin Rowbottom abt 1826 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Head Sheffield Yorkshire Emma Rowbottom abt 1852 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Daughter Sheffield Yorkshire Hannah Rowbottom abt 1855 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Daughter Sheffield Yorkshire Christiane Warson abt 1842 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Wife Sheffield Yorkshire Emma Warson abt 1865 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Daughter Sheffield Yorkshire Henry Warson abt 1840 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Brother-in-law Sheffield Yorkshire Henry Warson abt 1862 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Son Sheffield Yorkshire

If you get the marriage cert from 1857 it should say fathers names & occs. Now why dont you ask for a lookup of a Elizabeth Carr b1826 Stannington Yorkshire. If you get Johns birth cert and it says mother is Elizabeth Carr then you know you have the right marriage cert Zoe

We have the right one's but the sheffield 41 census has the following Rowbotham, Alfred of Carver Lane, Sheffield West. Aged 1 years. (Piece #1338/8, folio 13a, enumeration district 18.) Find similar Rowbotham, Charles of Carver Lane, Sheffield West. Aged 24 years. (Piece #1338/8, folio 13a, enumeration district 18.) Find similar Rowbotham, Edwin of Carver Lane, Sheffield West. Aged 15 years. (Piece #1338/8, folio 13a, enumeration district 18.) Find similar Rowbotham, Sarah of Carver Lane, Sheffield West. Aged 22 years. (Piece #1338/8, folio 13a, enumeration district 18.) Find similar Rowbotham, Thomas of Carver Lane, Sheffield West. Aged 50 years. (Piece #1338/8, folio 13a, enumeration district 18.) Which is why I then went to Carver street on the later census and that threw Edward into the picture, I can't find any other Edwin Rowbothams in the 41 census. I think this may be the dead end Joanne

Not the one on Carver street I don't think as John C on the 1861 has a brother who is with father Edwin in 1851 wife and things match. And they have a Visitor with the surname Carr Zoe

Zoe Just checked thorugh the posting again and am I right in thinking that it is the second one you posted and not the one on Carver street, as I had Edwins parents dwon as Thomas and Ellen Rowbotham born 1789-1790 after I searched the Sheffield 1841 census and it came up with them. Joanne

No haven't got John C's marriage cert, only got his daughters, dated 1897 address for them is Livesey street and his occupation is labourer, both John and his daughter Annie Elizabeth have signed with a x. They were married at the same church that Annie Elizabteth was baptised at. I think you have them right from the datails you have posted and it is the family I have in my tree. Thanks Zoe, Joanne
