Another pair of eyes and does 53 still seem old to have a child or about the norm Joanne

On a census for one of my lost the youngest turned out to be the granddaughter (born out of wedlock)

Merry Report 9 Apr 2006 17:36

I think the entry should be treated with a large amount of suspicion......not necessarily because of the age discrepency (and Mary Ann may possibly by 9, not 7 or 1!!), though you have a point - not very many women had children over 50, so she may have been a dau or a g-dau...... But also she is listed after Christopher aged 4, and who does he belong to!!??? Merry

Jessie aka Maddies mate Report 9 Apr 2006 17:44

Yes there is also Christopher age 4, The childrens DOB's are 1818, 1825,1829, 1840 ( possible this one died as a child) 1846 and 1850, Ages now seem out for the parents who were born 1790 and 1789, They have a son who is not on the 1851 census, Charles who was born 1818, he is married and with his wife and children charles 1843 and Ann 1851 on the 1851 census Another one maybe to add to the list for birth certs - god knows how much this will all cost as the list is growing daily. I did a look-pu recently for someone where the grandparents had registered a birth in their names. ON later census's they came clean and the child was listed as grandson. I think if you follow Mary and Christopher through to later census's all might be revealed.

Jessie aka Maddies mate Report 9 Apr 2006 17:47

Sarah the daughter age 22 on the 51 census could be the Mother of Christopher age 4 as her occupation say ' at home' but to be the Mother of Mary Ann as well is a bot of a long shot as she would have been 15 if the age of Mary Ann is 7 and not 9 or 1. Have tried to follow Christopher but he is missing from the 61, infact I can't find any of them on the 61, and he appears later on the 71 I think as married Joanne

I haven't read all through this thread but just wanted to say that a friend of my mother had twins at 56 years old and she didn't make the newspapers. Natural births too - not IVF or anything. Chrissie

This gets more confusing!! in 1861 the name is transcribed as Rowbotton and Christopher is there, it is the same address but new parents - Edward born 1826! the first time I have come across him. I have Edwin born a year and he is my 3x great grandad Ann E Rowbottom abt 1858 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Daughter Sheffield Yorkshire View Record Anna Rowbottom abt 1855 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Daughter Sheffield Yorkshire View Record Christopher Rowbottom abt 1847 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Son Sheffield Yorkshire View Record Edward Rowbottom abt 1826 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Head Sheffield Yorkshire View Record Emma Rowbottom abt 1852 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Daughter Sheffield Yorkshire View Record Mary Rowbottom abt 1850 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Daughter Sheffield Yorkshire View Record Thersa Rowbottom abt 1829 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Wife Sheffield Yorkshire Will have to come back to this is a while as 15 year old daughter needs me to play her taxi driver - back in a while

Jessie aka Maddies mate

Jessie aka Maddies mate Report 9 Apr 2006 18:13

Back from the taxi run ( a short one tonight ) Looks like Christopher and Mary are the children of Edward ( Edward is a son that I hadn't found until now ) Now need to find Edward in 51 and 41 as there is no sign of him, have his other siblings at home with the parents. Why do all sides of my family seem to send me round and round in circles and then put up a brick wall that takes for ever to samsh down,

God now I'm confused, I think I need to re look at my tree and work out what I have and what I haven't, Working backwards My great grannie is Annie Elizabeth Rowbotham ( have death cert, marriage cert and baptism record - Rowbotham, Annie Elizabeth (of Hillsbro, born January 1, TBV). Baptised May 28, 1876, by H A Goodwin at St John the Baptist Church, Owlerton. Parents name(s) are Annis & John (Roller). I then went searching for John her father and this led me to the family we have been looking at but now I'm starting to doubt myself on this and may have to write it all down and work it out Joanne

Zoe Report 9 Apr 2006 19:11

Joanne When searching the census I put in Edw* Rowbo* 1826 +/- 2 Sheffield and only have 2 show up in the 1851/1861/1871 censuses Now the first one I put is the one I think matches your 1851 entry as the second one I put has certain children with him in 1851 that matches in 1861 ~ hope you understand. Jessie aka Maddies mate Report 9 Apr 2006 19:13

To clarify parents of my great grannie are John and Annis, definatley Annis as I had a great great auntie Annis ( or Annice as we spelt it) Not sure which one is mine in 71, but John has to be with Annis his wife as she is there at the baptism of their dauther Annie Elizabeth in 1876!

Thats John, he was registered at birth as John Carr Rowbotham 1852 Name: John Carr Rowbotham Birth: Jun 1852 - Ecclesall Bierlow, Derbyshire, West Riding Of Yorkshire Amy was misheard it should have been Annie Elizabeth I then had John parents as Edwin Rowbotham and Elizabeth Carr which is what led me to Carver Street in Sheffield. But then it all went pear shaped or at least it did from where I'm sitting
