Well as Annie was born 1892 - in England, I guess you could look at the bmd beta index for the marriage in England say a year earlier? If Annie is your direct ancestor I guess it doesnt make a lot of difference to you if he remarried. Though personally Id have to get one of the younger kiddies certs just to see if it was a different person! On tip - its unusual for someone to come over from Ireland without finding several of their family living nearby! Have you tried looking for James as a lodger or looking for people who may be his siblings in the same area? Good luck.

Yes that is the family you have found on the 1901 census. You could be right that they might be in Ireland and maybe they got married there. Dont hold out much hope in finding the marriage as I have no idea where in Ireland they came from. Many thanks to all that have searched for me without people like you I would have no chance of finding out information that helps me go to the next stage. Kevin

More than likely Jim. Kevin - is Annie the person who is your direct ancestor?

Thelma

Thelma Report 11 Apr 2006 13:17

Could they still be in Ireland?

Sorry, been on phone (got to earn my living!) So at last, lets have a look see at the 1901: William Broughty abt 1855 Ireland Visitor Dewsbury Yorkshire Annie Deynan abt 1892 Wednes, Lancashire, England Daughter Dewsbury Yorkshire James Deynan abt 1865 Ireland Head Dewsbury Yorkshire James Deynan abt 1899 Wednes, Lancashire, England Son Dewsbury Yorkshire Margaret Deynan abt 1873 Ireland Wife Dewsbury Yorkshire Robert Deynan abt 1900 Wednes, Lancashire, England Son Dewsbury Yorkshire Oh sorry Jim, didnt see yours. Makes it clearer doesnt it. So we have Annie born 1892 then a gap of 7 years??? Anyone looked for a death of a Mary Degnan? Do you have any certificates for the younger children with mums name? I think a possible remarriage to Margaret about 1897/98? Though other kids could be living elsewhere or dead.

Heather

Heather Report 11 Apr 2006 12:57

Born late in year, fell into next quarter. And her mother was Mary Johnson. Oh you say 1892 now.

Kevin

Kevin Report 11 Apr 2006 12:55

Annie was born at 7 Victoria street Prescot 1892 I have her birth certificate. I know that the 1901 census is right because they had more children and both died in Dewsbury. I also think that he just put margaret on the census by mistake or maybe he preferred to call her that.

Heather

Heather Report 11 Apr 2006 12:52

Yes thats what I thought Merry - so I think a possible second marriage? Mary first time, Margaret next?

Merry

Merry Report 11 Apr 2006 12:52

I think she is the 1892 Q1 baby. Born Widnes which is in Prescot district Merry

Heather

Heather Report 11 Apr 2006 12:50

Are you sure there isnt a second marriage here? When was Annie, the eldest kiddie born? If she was the 1892 birth in Prescot - there is a big gap til next kiddie and why did you say mums name should be Mary not Margaret? May be James married Mary first then Margaret?

Merry

Merry Report 11 Apr 2006 12:46

Maybe they married in Ireland? I can't see him on the 1891 census. Merry

I have her maiden name its Johnson but still had no luck in finding the marriage

Merry

Merry Report 11 Apr 2006 12:42

If you get the birth cert for one of the children it will give you the mum's maiden surname, which may help with the marriage: eg: Births Sep 1900 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Degnan Robert Prescot 8b 714 Merry (LOL Heather - Snap!)

So not Lancashire? Can you copy and paste the 1901 details on here please. I can only find one suitable James born Ireland and his wife is not a Mary. When did they marry? What children have they got on the 1901. Put the 1901 details on here.

Kevin
