I've just started getting really annoying pop-ups and even an attempt to download a file last night (luckily AVAST caught that). I'm not sure if it's because I'm using the UK web address instead of (.)com. Perhaps we should inundate Genes with emails of complaint. Jenny

Yes the one I just had reminded me of the ads for 'Hair' - very psychadelic. Ive just mailed them aswell. I think we all should as its very annoying.

Im getting tea at Claridges ads now. Erm, someone said about strange emails asking for financial support - delete everyone of these and all those which tell you you have won a million pounds or have been left money by someone or who ask for your pay pal, ebay, bank or any other sort of information.

Heather re the emails I have been doing that for about 6 weeks now and I am averaging 1 per day. Any other ideas??? GRRR Flaming heart getting on my nerves now in the way again. Ok back again. Each day is a different name but they are starting to be repeated.

I got an e-mail today from a lady whose husband had left loads of money to a charity. She wanted me to suggest one for her, and she had loads of money ready to give to it!! I deleted it right away

And I'm getting the strange pop-up as well

Perranmaid - only one! I get perhaps a dozen or more a day. I think they pick up your email address from places like ebay or other sites you join. Its maddening. I do click on block message from that sender but still more come from others. I had an awful one today supposedly a couple trying to get money for a brain op on a kiddie. How can people do these scams, I really dont know. Just remember banks and building societies WILL NEVER CONTACT YOU BY EMAIL ASKING YOU TO CLICK A LINK OR SUPPLY PERSONAL DETAILS.

Just started getting them on this site from last night, never had them before, is it something to do with Genes? Liz

Paul

Paul Report 13 Apr 2006 07:20

Download and install Mozilla Firefox as your browser and don't use Internet Explorer - NO MORE POP-UPS unless you want them. Its free, its faster, its more secure than IE. Paul PS: The 'Doubleclick' tracking Cookie also attempts to install from these ads (I can see the code). This is considered to be Spyware by most anti-spyware programs. It is not malicious, but it certainly is intrusive.

Anne, it's not enough to use Firefox; you have to download the Adblocker extension from the Firefox site as well. I'm using Firefox, and I haven't seen any of these ads.

Paul

Paul Report 13 Apr 2006 07:44

Mary, Agreed on that. I use Ad-Aware SE plus Ad-Watch as well, although the DoubleClick tracking cookies may not be blocked. Paul
