I have been researching now for about 4 years so I don't know if that means I am still a newbie, but I got this book for Christmas and think it is excellent, there are loads of documents that I did not really know much about which it explains very well. It has given me more pointers for next time I go to the Records Office.

Kathy Chater has a few books - go look on the WHSmith web site. I know what I am going to do with my vouchers now.

A very interesting read, maybe for the not so newbie is 'A comedy of errors' or 'The marriage records of England and Wales 1837-1899' by Micheal Whitfield Foster, ISBN 0-473-05581-3. It explores the errors and omissions in the registers during this time, and the reasons behind them.
