Oh yes, found it on their online catalogue, and as well as the baptism register, there is also a 'notebook of baptisms' for 1817-1826, which I suppose might possibly have extra information in it? Kate.

Good, I thought they were bound to be, but I have been struggling with their online catalogue! Kate.

Here's a possible birth for Catherine, from IGI: KATHERINE SAGE Female Event(s): Birth: Christening: 24 DEC 1787 Inverness, Inverness, Scotland Death: Burial: Parents: Father: JOHN SAGE Family Mother: MARGT. MCBAIN No birth for James hope in Inverness.

Kate

Kate Report 29 Apr 2006 16:03

Also, much more tenuous, but I can't help wondering if these people might be connected: JAMES HOPE Male Family -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Event(s): Birth: Christening: Death: Burial: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marriages: Spouse: MARION DRUMMOND Family Marriage: 08 NOV 1796 Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland It would make more sense if the husband was a Drummond and the wife a Hope, though, wouldn't it, unless James was born before they got married? But since I haven't found a birth for him, it is probably just a coincidence. Kate.

Hi, Yes william was 5 when christened, and I know of no other children. Am now trying to find out who has the parish records for the old church st pancras.

Kate

Kate Report 29 Apr 2006 15:51

Unless the IGI is wrong then William was actually christened in 1825, when he was 4: WILLIAM JAMES DRUMMOND Male -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Event(s): Birth: 25 FEB 1821 Christening: 15 MAY 1825 Old Church, Saint Pancras, London, England Death: Burial: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parents: Father: JAMES HOPE DRUMMOND Family Mother: CATHERINE The batch number is actually for 1825 onwards, so it seems unlikely to be that the year for his baptism is wrong on the IGI. So, have you looked at the actual parish records entry for this baptism? Again, it is possible that there is some information on it that might help you, although by 1825 they were using the standard forms so it will probably only be father's occupation and residence. That would be something, though! Also, if he died between 1821 and 1825, it might mention that he was deceased on the baptism entry. It does seem likely to me that either James or Catherine died soon after William's birth, or they split up, because they don't seem to have had any other children - or do you know of any others? Kate.

Hi, Williams wedding cert says his father is a labstring maker, maker being the only word I can make out!

Merry Report 29 Apr 2006 15:36

Sorry Lynda, I was being a bit cryptic! I meant what did it say about dad on the marriage cert? Merry

Kate

Kate Report 29 Apr 2006 15:35

And another question for you - this is James and Katherine's marriage, have you had a look at the actual entry in the parish records for it? JAMES HOPE DRUMMOND Male Family -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Event(s): Birth: Christening: Death: Burial: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marriages: Spouse: KATHERINE SAGE Family Marriage: 07 AUG 1820 Old Church, Saint Pancras, London, England If you haven't already, then look at the actual parish records entry, because it may give you further information, such as names of witnesses, who could be related to him, whether he had been married before, where he was living (at least, what parish he was living in...) Kate.

Kate

Kate Report 29 Apr 2006 15:29

What is James's occupation on his son's marriage certificate, and does it say 'deceased' for him? Kate.
