Hi Linda I thought that a line drawn through where the father's name should have been usually meant that the person was illegitimate but the only Mary Tranters born in Shropshire around that time, from the census records, appear to have fathers. Unless....she was born before mum married and she took stepfather's name... Heather |

Linda there is a Mary A Tranter in 1881 with her aunt & uncle.. Sarah A. Are there any TRANTER witnesses at her marriage? Maybe the combination of 1st names will help to identify the correct family in census. |

BUT I am unable to find her on any census before her marriage. I have found a birth ref Mary Tranter Jan q 1868 6a 13 even if I send for birth cert I have no way of knowing if it the right one or not,What else can I do? thanks Linda x |
