Merry Report 4 May 2006 22:48

Well, I said that because I didn't want you going thinking it was def him!! But it probably is!! Maybe the other Bertie's were in reserved occupations (miners??) Merry

no i don't live in Australia! i live in Surrey : ) yes that is quite useful to have (if it is him). i would have thought he would have gone by the name Bertie, because apparently my gdad was quite particular about him being known as this! but then as you said, you never know!!

Merry Report 4 May 2006 22:40

Drat about the deaths......if either had lived until 1969 then their dob would have been recorded at death (not to say they would be right of course!) Merry

There's one Medal Card on the National Archives for a Bertie Bevan. Of course, we can't say this is his, as there were several men with his name. He might have decided to call himself Bert or Albert whilst in the army or 101 other possibilities. However, the medal index entry does give you the army numbers: Medal card of Bevan, Bertie Corps Regiment No Rank 2nd Welsh Regiment 675 Private 4th Garrison Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers 47225 Private Labour Corps 615758 Private Date 1914-1920 Catalogue reference WO 372/2 There approx a 50% chance of the army record for this Bertie Bevan being at the National Archives (many were destroyed during WW2). If you were able to access it then you would probably be able to determine if it was his or not (next of kin details) and it should include his date of birth (if he didn't lie! LOL) Where do you live?? (Go on, say Australia!!! LOL) Merry

tis ok, i don't know how much i can give on that front, Bertie snr must have died in the 50s (i searched the 40s) but with Rebecca i don't know. I would probably think in the same period.

Merry Report 4 May 2006 22:31

Hmmmmmm! I don't know much about Scottish records........ When did Bertie and Rebecca die? (sorry to keep harping on about deaths!) Merry

*~Lizbeth~* Report 4 May 2006 22:28

LOL sorry to disapoint you Merry!!! Well on my gdads birth cert Bertie snr was a rag and bone collector and on the marriage cert he was a artificial flower maker! he could have gone up to scotland, how do i get info on this? btw the pic i have of Bertie snr is of him in uniform so it would fit he did fight in the war!

Merry

Merry Report 4 May 2006 22:23

No! I was hoping you were going to say.....''Bob died in 2000 and Margaret was Mrs Sidebottom and died in Swansea in the 1980's''......then I would have looked up their death regs, which would have given their dobs!! Maybe they were born later (after 1920) and the large gap between might be because Bertie was away fighting in WW1?? None of which accounts for the missing marriage?? What did Bertie do for a living? Could he have gone to Scotland to marry (perhaps Rebecca's family wanted to give him the onceover?? LOL) Merry

*~Lizbeth~* Report 4 May 2006 22:16

unfortunately i don't know alot about either of them. Bob i know was a sailor in the Marines, i have photos from abt 1944 to my gdad. He does look quite youthful in these so maybe he was young when he joined. i dont know anything on Margaret, apart from the fact that i have a photo of Bertie snr to her from 1939. But this prob dont help much!

Merry Report 4 May 2006 22:11

Do you know when Bob (Robert) and Margaret died?? And do you know Margaret's married surname (if she married?) Merry

Heather Report 4 May 2006 22:05

I cant find a marriage on familyrellies. On the birth cert it doesnt say Rebecca Bevan formerly Anderson?

*~Lizbeth~*

*~Lizbeth~* Report 4 May 2006 22:03

yep the birth cert states father Bertie Bevan and mother Rebecca Anderson btw thanks for the help so far!! i really want to get further on this side of the family as it means alot to my mum.

Merry

Merry Report 4 May 2006 21:59

and the birth cert names Rebecca Anderson with no other names? Merry

Heather

Heather Report 4 May 2006 21:55

I thought this guy would be too young, but I guess, young but not impossible to be the father - you do need to find that marriage to see if dad is David. Assuming that is, that son Bertie married and stayed in Swansea with Rebecca AND Merrys info would suggest he did. yes i have my gdads birth and marriage cert and both state his father as being a Bertie Bevan

*~Lizbeth~*

*~Lizbeth~* Report 4 May 2006 21:52

no, i couldnt find the index no for the marriage, ill have a look for the yrs i searched. im sure they would have been married shortly before my gdads birth because i believe he was the oldest.

Merry

Merry Report 4 May 2006 21:51

If you don't have the marriage cert then have you got your granddad's birth cert (1914?)....I can't find a marriage for Bertie senior to Rebecca and wondered if Bertie had another more official name (like Albert or Bertram etc).....would also confirm whether Rebecca had any other names too. Merry
