tis ok, i don't know how much i can give on that front, Bertie snr must have died in the 50s (i searched the 40s) but with Rebecca i don't know. I would probably think in the same period.

There's one Medal Card on the National Archives for a Bertie Bevan. Of course, we can't say this is his, as there were several men with his name. He might have decided to call himself Bert or Albert whilst in the army or 101 other possibilities. However, the medal index entry does give you the army numbers: Medal card of Bevan, Bertie Corps Regiment No Rank 2nd Welsh Regiment 675 Private 4th Garrison Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers 47225 Private Labour Corps 615758 Private Date 1914-1920 Catalogue reference WO 372/2 There approx a 50% chance of the army record for this Bertie Bevan being at the National Archives (many were destroyed during WW2). If you were able to access it then you would probably be able to determine if it was his or not (next of kin details) and it should include his date of birth (if he didn't lie! LOL) Where do you live?? (Go on, say Australia!!! LOL) Merry

Drat about the deaths......if either had lived until 1969 then their dob would have been recorded at death (not to say they would be right of course!) Merry

no i don't live in Australia! i live in Surrey : ) yes that is quite useful to have (if it is him). i would have thought he would have gone by the name Bertie, because apparently my gdad was quite particular about him being known as this! but then as you said, you never know!!

Well, I said that because I didn't want you going thinking it was def him!! But it probably is!! Maybe the other Bertie's were in reserved occupations (miners??) Merry
