Snowdrops Many thanks for all your help - I think a trip to the records office might be the answer - but that will have to wait for the time being. Plenty of other people to look for at the moment - they will keep me busy for a while. Thanks everyone for your help. Gerald

Sorry Gerald, Can't find anything on the Pryke side of things although there are loads of them around that area. The probabilities are either that she was a Sharpe and married a Pryke and therefore would most likely to have married in Great Saxham OR she was a Pryke marrying into the Sharpes in which case her parish could be any of the others. I think the only sure way to know is a long hard slog of going through all of the possibilities - that's if IGI have the records you're after. Any chance of you going to the relevant record office? It might be quicker and easier in the long run!! Must be off to make tea now so I really shall wish you good luck in your search!! Cheers Gerald Snowdrops

Jane Report 18 May 2006 17:48

I am fairly certain it says Pryke - can't really see that it could be anything else. Gerald

Snowdrops, Now we really are going back a long way - that's great. I am starting to wonder if the prayer book actually belonged to Mary wife of John Sharpe - perhaps it could even go back a further generation. The odd thing is that it ended up with my great grandmother, another Maria Sharpe born 1843, daughter of Robert, and she wrote all her families dates of birth in it, along with her own and her husband's, and their date of marriage. No - it was Mr Wright!!!! Are you sure you're reading it properly (the bible that is) could Pryke POSSIBLY be Wright? Is it really curly writing? or very clear? This Mary is probably out of the time frame though!! Thanks Reg, but if Maria died in1846 she couldn't have given the book to her mother in 1848. Snowdrops - thanks for your find on Mary - that's great. Gerald

Gerald Just looked to see if they had any of the known family on there and came up with this: ROBERT SHARPE Male -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Event(s): Birth: 16 SEP 1822 Christening: 20 OCT 1822 Great Saxham, Suffolk, England Death: Burial: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parents: Father: JOHN SHARPE Family Mother: MARY TILSON Does it looks like your lot? If so the batch number is C132331. to use the batch number just put in the surname you are looking for, enter the batch number in the box provided, choose British Isles, then England, then Suffolk and it will list all those family members from that church whether they are Baptisms, Marriages or Deaths they have on their data banks Snowdrops

Thanks Snowdrops, I'll have a plough through IGI. Gerald

Jane

Jane Report 18 May 2006 16:33

I am now wondering if Maria died without having any children as the prayer book came down through the family from Robert's daughter and I would have thought it likely to have been passed down through Maria's family if she had one. I have therefore been looking for a death record for Maria, thinking she might have died prior to the 1851 census but no luck so far. Gerald
