Ann or Annie Tudsbury was 9 in 1861,19 in 1871,29 in 1881,39 in 1891,49 in 1901....stayed with her siblings all her life,in the same village of Edwinstowe Notts ,and died there in the 1930's,never married.In every census it states that she was born in Cawthorne Yorkshire-evry other child and all the other generations were born in the village,and a previous child born 1848 died in 1853,so she might have been at a hospital or something..........she should be born 1851/2..........but i cant for the life of me find her birth ref or christening-evry other one has been found...........??????????

So to summarise Anne or Annie or Anne E. Tudsbury born 1851 or 1852 or even any female Tudsbury born then ?

So when did the family move to Edwinstowe if they were all born in Cawthorne? Anne

Perhaps she went home to mum for the birth or were her parents from the village too? Heather

They didnt move to edwinstowe the family had been there for over 200 years -lots of generations-all the kids befor and afterr were born in the village-uncles,aunts,grandparents etc.Ann's parents got married in the mothers village,but the father and past generations were all edwinstowe born and bred. I think there must be sheets missing- reason being that there are no Tudsbury births at all listed in 1852 and 1851.....in the whole of the country,just a few deaths.

no ive cocked up the title info....she was born 1852 or 1851...ill change it.

Were the other children's births registered? Registration wasn't compulsory then, so she may not have been registered. Kath. x

Father,2 older brothers,younger 2 brother,grandfather,grandmother and previous 5 generations all edwinstowe. Previous sibling mary died aged about 5 in 1853. Her mother is from Derby. Not bothered if she was born out of county,but just that her birth doesnt seem to show on official records at all- perhaps there are missing sheets.

Yes all registered,all christened etc etc....

So I can see her mum and dad with older siblings in Edwinstone on the 1851 shortly before Ann was born.....so we just need to ask them why mum popped off to Yorkshire for the birth....... Very odd isn't it? Merry

Correction..........this is odd..........the area in notts is very good for records,and there is an oddity here. The 7a district is a bit of a funny one,it is really Lincolnshire,but encroaches into parts of Nottinghamshire as well. For instance Collingham is half way between Lincoln and Newark,but a lot of the births were registered in the Lincoln district,as oppossed to the Nottinghamshire (Newark) district.It can also cover Retford births,i think it depends where the informant headed for the market that day!!! Neither Retford or Newark are that far from Edwinstowe,but a bit of a trek back then. Glen

Registration didn't become compulsory until 1875.......the birth may simply not have been registered. Reg

Oh ok,will have a look. The 7a also covers some Leicester and Ashby de La Zouch as well,(on freebmd)pick the name Chambers,vol 7a and a ten year span say 1850-1860 and they all come up,Ashby de la Z,Lincoln,Caistor,Leicester.It's a major pain at times.
