I've found this one in 1891.....he says he is single, but that might be assumed, as he was a lodger.... William Askham abt 1830 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Lodger Sheffield Yorkshire Merry

She would use the name Askham because that was her name!! The way the birth was registered followed the regulations for someone who was married but had a child out of wedlock. I think they had split up :o(( If you could find George's baptism you might find a father's name recorded, but by this date vicar's were not bothering with this info so much, so you would have to be lucky! Will I be able to find out why, how long etc...?

Georgina

Georgina Report 2 Jun 2006 17:52

Michelle I dont know what records have survived. Why dont you google 'West Riding Prison' & see what results you get. He cant have been there very long because Merry has found him on the 1891 census. Georgina.

oooh, so maybe....he went to jail and she said, ''You needn't think your crossing this threshold when you get out''....so he went his own way when he was released! Then she made a little slip and gave birth to George...... So..... if George was only born because hubby was in jail, then without his crime, you wouldn't be here, Michelle!!! Blimey! Merry
