Hi Elaine, Already had a couple of generous offers Elaine, I wouldn't wish to appear greedy, or take the help from others but, thankyou anyway, good of you to offer. Regards, Jen

There is quite good coverage for Liverpool on the British Isle Vital Records Index. If you want me to look up anything then happy to do so.

Although not about parish records these sites have information on churches and Liverpool in general , http://www[.]liverpool-genealogy[.]org[.]uk/streets1851/streetindex[.]htm..........this site also gives streets for the 1841 census http://www[.]bbc[.]uk/liverpool/localhistory/journey/scouse/city/index[.]shtml http://www[.]liverpool-ancestors[.]co[.]uk/index[.]html www[.]toxteth[.]net www[.]scottiepress[.]org remove all brackets, apologies if this is not the correct way to write site addresses being from Liverpool myself I have found these sites to be of a lot of interest

hi lesley, i have taken a note of the site you sent and will look later, thank you very much,no im afraid i didnt see the site you mention that someone posted , i shall have to go back and look, i wouldnt like anyone to think i was ignoring them, im most grateful for all suggestions, ive been trying to find these parents for ages , i had an LDS film number, and ordered it but was told it is restricted so the only way is church records, i live quite a long way away from the LDS church, even the chap i spoke to on the phone at the LDS said he had no idea why it had been restricted, seems silly doesnt it thanks again EILEEN

Eileen I thought St Nicholas was the original Parish Church of Liverpool- Records office will tell you 0151 233 5817 Simone x P.S I kept your info from the thread you put up other night, thought I might look at St Nick's when I get chance to go- Didn't want to promise though in case I don't get there for a while. You know what it's like, good intentions and something turns up, booked twice recently and had to cancel!

Hi Lesley, Yes I have it, it's a fantastic site, went on it yesterday and got sidetracked from Liverpool to Shropshire, where I found several rellies. I will definately make the most of it, and don't fret, I wasn't going to spend any money lol!! Only mentioned Gores on ebay for Eileen, as it might have been the nearest thing date wise for her? Regards, Jen

alter, i know LIVERPOOL isnt a parish now but in 1759 WALTON was separated from LIVERPOOL and LIVERPOOL was then a parish in its own right , believe me , i have been reading everything i could find on LIVERPOOL, because i was trying to find which churches would have been local to try to cut down on unnecessary churches, and on the marriage report it definitely states ' the PARISH OF LIVERPOOL' it seems so difficult to get information on LIVERPOOL in those old days, but i know it was a major port in slave trading as well, and a lot of irish people migrated to liverpool to work at the time of the potato famine,,all this information , but none of it helping me lol EILEEN

Eileen, Don't know if you want to spent much money? but I just went on ebay to see what they had on Gore's............theres Liverpool's First Directory............which goes back as far as 1766, Not the year your after..........but might be the nearest you could get don't know?? it's pricey at 29.99. But thought it worth a mention. Regards, Jen

liverpool isnt a parish........!.........it contains many parishes within the city and environs-walton is a district of liverpool and will have had its own church.

Eileen

Eileen Report 7 Jun 2006 20:20

yes, alter, i have looked at that site at all the liverpool names, i think there were 4 but didnt find anything, thanks for the info though , it was you saying about the rosettes that reminded me EILEEN

Eileen

Eileen Report 7 Jun 2006 20:15

sorry alter , computer went haywire, on the marriage document it says thomas houghton from the parish of LIVERPOOL apparently LIVERPOOL was a parish in its own right , i dont know why his parents were so shy, they dont appear on his birth, nor on his marriage papers, he married in WALTON ON THE HILL that was where his wife was from , he was 23 when he married so i assume his parents were still alive,, what do you think lol seems very dodgy to me EILEEN

The Ego Report 7 Jun 2006 20:06

on the opc site-the area that has one rosette is just starting-all the parishes listed in liverpool are one rosette which suggests that they are building up the info-the west derby one for instance has map referencesand mapsto show the position of the church. other areas have 2 rosettes and have detailed indexed records and even some have photos of the churches.

Lancashire Online parish Clerks.........its a series of sites being developed round the country......the lancashire one is really taking off by the looks of it-they will not be complete but its a start. Have you an adress or district on any early census?

Eileen

Eileen Report 7 Jun 2006 19:54

hi what is opc site, sorry but this is new to me, i think ive scrolled all the sites with the name LIVERPOOL in them, lol, in the hope of turning up my ancestors parents but have been told will only find them in the parish records, where he was baptised, apparently LIVERPOOL was a parish in its own right in 1759, so thats all i have not much help, i know thanks again EILEEN
