Jackie you need to post as much info as you can on here and then we may be able to help. If the info is sensitive or includes living people send me a personal message, just click on my name. Georgina.

You need to work back one generation at a time. You have your mother´s birth certificate - this will give the names of her parents. The next thing you need to do is to find your grandparents marriage certificate - do you have any idea when or when they might have married?

WHO are you trying to find, WHERE and WHEN?

My grandfather's name was Charles Henry Simmonds, and we know that he married Cecilia Farrant, my grandmother. However, this is all we know other than it is likely that they both came from Winchester and that Cecilia died in the 1950s but not a precise date.

Either death certs or marriage certs will give these people's ages. Marriage cert would be a better bet as it would give the names and occupations of the fathers and then you could probably find them on the 1901 census. You don't know when they married, but do you know when any of their children were born? Couples generally married a bit earlier than the birth of the first child, though not always. nell
