Can anyone offer any advice please? I have a marriage certificate for Charles Green and Mary Ann Cawdeary on 5 August 1866 in Portsmouth. Charles gives his father as Daniel (writing very clear). By the 1881 Census he is showing his name as Henry Charles Green (correct family) and his birthplace as Gillingham, Dorset, aged 36. In 1891 he has reverted to plain Charles, still of Gillingham, aged 46. In 1901 he is still Charles, same age and birthplace.. The problem is I cannot trace his birth and therefore details of his parents. I've tried BMD and all the obvious methods, even ordering a likely certificate from GRO but father not called Daniel! By his ages he must have been born c1845 but there is no trace of the family on the 51 or 61 census. I'd be really grateful for any help or advice at all - I just don't know where to go! Thank you for ploughing through this. Chris
