When and where was William Thomas born. Are you expecting to find him with his parents - if so give their names (and year and place of birth if you have it) If you are expecting to find him married with children then give as much family information as possible.

am obviously missing something here - where does William Thomas fit in?

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 2 Jul 2006 11:54

Where did you get your info about Gronwey's year of birth? This is the only result for the name anywhere on Ancestry Name: Gronwey Howells Year of Registration: 1899 Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec District: Swansea County: Glamorgan, West Glamorgan Volume: 11a Page: 930 Certainly not North Wales...........although the family could have moved at some stage...... Elaine Just to enlighten you............William Thomas is the 'other side' of the family; not sure why Gwyneth has used the name yet again as a thread title. There has been reams of info posted about the Thomases on several threads.........unfortunately, the main one appears to have been deleted. Reg

Gwyneth As you appear not to have any firm dates, a census search would be better carried out using just names and locations, although the location seems also to be uncertain. Have you got your father's birth cert? Reg

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 2 Jul 2006 12:09

Gwyneth I would think, on balance, that your best course of action would be to purchase some units for the familyrelatives site. It is fully searchable for bmd's in the period 1866-1920, and you can use any one of many criteria in the search. You should be able to find the births of at least some of your father's siblings, and also the marriage of his parents. Once you have the marriage ref, you can order the cert and find out the ages of the couple at the time, plus the names and occupations of their respective fathers. Reg

Gwyn, please dont take this the wrong way, but you need to get some sort of system in looking for your people. You should be working backwards using the info you know to be fact and then looking for the next information which will lead you backwards. What certificates do you have which show names and dates? You will need to start deciding which certificates are essential to buy so that you can cut out all the guess work. Have you got all the information you received the other day? You need to enter it all somewhere on a program or even on paper to see what you have and what you need. The same with the other side of your family. Otherwise you will get really confused by all the names, dates and places. If you dont want to buy a family tree program you can download a free one from familysearch.org I see there is a thread about a 30 day free trial on ancestry - that would give you all the census available from 1901-1841 plus lots of other info like bmd. Do you think it would worth taking the trial? Have you read the Tips for Newbies thread or the getting started article on the home page here?

are you certain of the names Gronwey Howells and Liza Jane Williams??

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 2 Jul 2006 20:03

Marie That's very generous of you to use your units on Gwyneth's behalf............ Based on her father's birth info, I would suggest that the relevant ones are those in Llanfyllin. I had a PM from her earlier....she is absolutely certain about Gronwey's name. Reg
