Well I just went on Talk Talk and it can't even find us!!! so don't think it's in my area either!!!! lol Have to say, live in quite a big built up area, but we can't get any cable systems here at all. Am with NTL, have been for years, but have to have little boxes or plugs everyhwere!! but £25 a month for broadband and 24/7 landline calls I think they are brill (know a lot that won't agree but I have had no probs) Kim :-)))

hi this place is so behind the times we are also always getting power cuts you would think we lived on the Moon.

When we requested Talk Talk broadband we were told that some exchanges were not equipped with the Talk Talk equipment yet. If you are connected to one of these, it will cost an extra £10 PCM until it was upgraded. They can tell you straight away by your post code, we actually ordered ours when we were over 300 miles from home. Luckily, our exchange had been upgraded so no extra charges. We went live much earlier than their forecast date and it has been great. I have it on my wireless network at home and we have had three computers accessing it at the same time. Derek

thanks for that Derek maybe I will get it then, can I ask which area you live in

Heather

Heather Report 7 Jul 2006 09:59

Val, I havent got the exchange up dated yet - so Im paying £10 a month for broadband until it is updated. The line rental is what you have to pay to BT at the moment - not in addition to it - you just pay it to talktalk who pass it on to BT. (Ive checked with them and they say there is no problem if you have to query a line - BT is still covering maintenance). My talktalk for all local, national and international calls at any time and including line rental and fast broadband is costing me £31 in total. My son whose exchange is already updated is getting all of that for £21. Previously I was paying £11 line rental, £9.99 for my talk talk phone calls and £33 for wanadoo broadband (for the highest download - talktalks standard download is the same as wanadoos highest). Kim, they wont find you cos they only connect through BT not cable connections. Im well pleased with my talk talk - its been much faster than wanadoo and it was connected very quickly and seamlessly with no fuss or delays.

hi Heather first of all are you charging for this info???? if not I think maybe I will go with them then.

Heather

Heather Report 7 Jul 2006 10:07

Well I realise that you are a pensioner, so you have concessionary rates for my advice for this year Val. Merry deals with all the nasty financial details of my various companies so you will have to complain to her if you get an invoice in error. So what does your tesco bill plus bt bill add up to in a month? Does it come out much difference to £31? Im saving what £240 a year at the moment. They tell me (?) that my exchange should be upgraded in the next 6 months when they will drop the £10 for broadband and then Ill be saving £360 a year. Just think how many certificates that equals Val. Plus your ancestry membership and whatever FHS you join.

first of all Heather how do you I am a Pensioner??? have you got a Web Cam????? you did make me laugh saying that. You are right I pay Tesco about £19 PCM and its not even fast then of course my BT Bill

Heather

Heather Report 7 Jul 2006 10:13

One thing though Val, you do have to have completed any contract you agreed to with tesco. Id been on wanadoo for over a year, so I was free to move. PS, If you are not a pensioner, I shall have to reconsider the concessionary prices you have been given til now.

Heather Report 7 Jul 2006 10:18

GO for it then - Dereks well pleased, so am I and so is everyone else I know who went over to them. I was worried they wouldnt be able to cope with all the extra peeps but so far, so good.

Heather Report 7 Jul 2006 10:21

Gillian, I had to have the highest download with wanadoo (£33 a month broadband) because my son plays online war games and so you need fast connection and ability to download all the complicated graphics plus he downloads music and video clips. I queried talktalk whether their standard - is it 40 mb? download would be sufficient for all that and the chap said more than sufficient and it has proved to be so. When I checked I saw the highest mb from wanadoo - which I was paying extra for - is the same as talktalks standard to everyone.

if you get a concession Gillian, then I want a bigger one for bringing this subject up

Heather

Heather Report 7 Jul 2006 10:29

Its getting difficult now - I did have concessions BUT I do have staff to pay out. Even the gimp Glen is saying that Im not paying him enough and has been doing some freelance work (no pun) with his naked, but for tinsel, cleaning. I have tried to advise him on sub contracting his tasks but you either have business acumen or you dont. BTW - anyone for reduced cost compost bins - Im still selling info on them (my two arrived last week - £12 for the two plus a small kitchen caddie - they are enormous - a saving of over £70 Val). I shall have Ed the barber on saying how Ive started a non genealogical thread if Im not careful.

Heather I cannot see this board now for crying with laughter you are so funny a real tonic.I do have a compost Bin already in my back Garden but maybe I will get a couple more. Also when we go to the dump we get a voucher and when you have 3 they give you a free bag of compost its brilliant.

Heather Report 7 Jul 2006 10:35

Val, did I give you the addy for Martin Lewis money saving website. Seriously, it is brilliant (he is the guy on tv who sets about getting peoples finances sorted). There are so many tips on there for saving money. In fact I am using my tesco vouchers to buy £240 of driving lessons with BSM for youngest boy and its costing me absolutely nothing. Right, before Ed jumps on my case. Get on the puter Val, and sign up - remember, 'He who Dares ................. Gillian, look at the bigger picture (my god you people will never be Richard Bransons) - for a very tiny fee you will be saving possibly £240 a year? You wont NEED to do any overtime for the certs.
