GENEALOGY POX Very Contagious to adults Symptoms A continual complaint as to the need for names, dates and places. Patient has a blank expression, often deaf to spouse and children. Has no taste for work of any kind except feverishly looking through records at libraries and courthouses. Has compulsion to write letters, swears at the mailman when he doesn't leave mail. Frequents strange places such as cemeteries, ruins and remote desolate areas. Makes secret night calls, hides phone bill from spouse. Mumbles to self and has a far away look in eyes. No known cure Treatment Medication is useless, disease is not fatal but gets progressively worse. Patient should attend genealogy meetings, subscribe to a magazine, and be given a quiet corner in the house where they can be alone. The usual nature of this disease is that the sicker the patient the more they enjoy it. Author Unknown

No. The more you find out the worse it gets as you have 500 ancestors or relatives to look for instead of fifty.

No Fay, afraid if you have begun to even suspect that you are getting addicted, then it is already too late for you. There is no known cure - and don't believe these quacks who say, 'Oh, but you must have nearly finished your tree'. There is no such thing as 'finishing' a tree. After all, if there were some point in the past where it stopped, you would not be here now doing it! Stop worrying and enjoy! Tina

When you're more interested in the dead than the living, then I'm afraid that's it. Nothing to be done about it. But at least we have support groups for our addiction, like this site. :) Bex

I have found a way of making the disease go into remission. It has been nearly a month since I last found a family member. However it will be back with a vengeance at approx. 9.45 tonight.

Sorry Fay - No cure. You have joined the rest of us !!!!!!!!! Welcome !! Dea x P.S. - The REALLY annoying thing is that you keep going off on other people's quests - I have spent ALL morning on someone else's family - FAR more interesting than mine and FAR more easy to trace - Surgeons, Manufacturer's, Journalists, Authors, Oil painters,- 16 year old FEMALES in the 1880's studying 'Analytical Chemistry - + lots more !!! My lot are much harder to trace.!! - Why is that ???? Dea x

Carol 430181 Report 9 Jul 2006 14:39

Dea, I think the reason it is easier to do other people's trees is because of the experience you have gained since starting. Often think I should start mine all over again with fresh eyes. Regards Carol
