Well, how old were the grandparents when they married? Their parents would surely have been old enough to be on 1901 census. You can look for grandparents' birth certs. You can also check the addresses they gave on wedding cert in the electoral rolls, although often addresses on marriage certs were convenience addresses.

I would imagine there are ages for them both on the cert which will give you an indication of when they may have been born. Do you know when they died?? The people who registered their deaths will have been asked the dec'd date of birth and place of birth, if they died after 1969. It's possible this info may not be correct (it is not checked), but depending on who gave the info, it may well be correct!!! Merry

grandad was 29 and grandma was 35. i have her found on 1901 census but grandad wasnt born until 1903. their fathers names are on marriage cert but no idea about the year of their births! carolexx

Well you will have to either a) look for the marriage of their fathers at some point before your grandparents' births - their ages will be on the certs or b) assume their fathers would be aged about 25-35 when they were born Depends on how common their names were. nell

Oh dear!! I am very confused!!! You have your grandmother on the 1901 census and you believe your grandfather was born in 1903, but you have ''no idea about the year of their births'' Yes you do, surely???!!! When did they die? Merry

ok i will clarify what i know. grandad was born 1903 died 1971 gran was born 1899 -my mum never knew her. mum was told she died in 1935 giving birth to my mum. we have now found out that she didnt die until 1940-so i have ordered her death cert to try and find out more but thats not arrived yet. gran and grandad married in 1933. i have their marriage cert-it has the names of their fathers and occupations. i traced grans father, mother and her brother and sister bback to 1891 census. hope thats clearer! carolexx

If the family I found 1901 is the right one, Catherine as mother could well have been the witness on the marriage cert. nell

As he was born mid-Dec 1903, there's a good chance his birth was registered Q1 1904 (you get 6 weeks to reg a birth) There are these four possibles: Births Dec 1903 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lyons William Stockport 8a 73 Lyons William Leeds 9b 434 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Births Mar 1904 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LYONS William Chorlton 8c 792 LYONS William Denis Toxteth Park 8b 154 The last one has a middle name and yours hasn't anywhere else.....Leeds is Yorkshire, so possbly less likely.....Stockport is probably second favourite and Chorlton the most likely! Nell posted the family inc Catherine Lyons living in South Manchester. Chorlton district (the birth reg I posted) is the right district for South Manchester! Merry
