Jeanne - first the facts - the Clangers sound was a Swannee Whistle (posh version of a bicycle pump). How about 'House of Straw' - build your tree on a ropey foundation. I've got a whole potential branch of my tree, provided by a very sincere person with her late husband as a twig, which starts with an unmarried mother who was born 3 years before her parents married. Other rellies have verified the marriage (in the 1780s) from church records. The branch itself is verifiable from census records but the claimed link is impossible to verify because of its date. This birth doesn't appear in any of my other information sources. It will come as no surprise that the whole family is carefully recorded (with some fairly obvious errors) by several people of a LDS persuasion in OneWorldTree entries. A younger daughter, born in wedlock but apparently at the time unmarried with 3 children, joined the Mormons during a Lancashire recruiting drive around 1835 which I found referred to in the Times online archive. She married twice in the US and was buried in Utah. So possibly 'The Weakest Link' might be more appropriate.

Glen In Tinsel Knickers Report 21 Jul 2006 23:30

Nicked from Heather in the original thread by Olde Crone we could provide a hapless contestent with 24 family trees submitted by members in the USA - and said to be hot matches with theirs. A whole hour of fun and laughter as they have to decide which of the trees containing Adam and Eve is a match - 'Real, not Real'?? And a block buster series of 'Lost' based on a party of ageing GR members flung together in Kew . '24' - Can Glen get to Norfolk, check out every Elmer in the county and back to Scotland before Mrs Glen notices his kilt is empty?

Janet in Yorkshire

Janet in Yorkshire Report 21 Jul 2006 23:45

How about Call My Bluff, where we all claim the same relative and give a reason why they should be on our tree - other team has to guess who is right. Jay

Heather Report 21 Jul 2006 23:45

Actually, what really worries me is when I get a hot match which shows people who could be connected and lists the kids with names like Kylie and Wayne. Arent I awful, I never contact them.

Dear OC << Your rellie isnt Margaret Holden or Slater is she?! Mine went on the Great Trek and married twice (on the trek). But managed to produce children in Lancashire at the same time lol. >> No apparent connection, but please don't let that stop you from adding my 'rellies' to your tree (ha!ha!). My principal surname is Lishman. Thoosans and thoosans of them all over the place, starting at Cartmel (now in Cumbria) . Sarah (poss. 1798) had 3 daughters, then married (or didn't) James Jack some place/time unknown (no recorded issue), then married William Marsden (possibly), again no recorded issue. She ends up buried in Grantsville, Utah in 1872 at a great age. The daughters all went with her. Two didn't marry but the third had 3 husbands, all apparently English. Her marriages seem to have been sequential, judging from the claimed dobs of the children of the 3 marriages. I have had snippets of verification from 'locked' US census records, but most of it comes from Grantsville cemetery records. All this is in the 'public' domain of OneWorldTree. Hey-ho. There may be some grain of truth in it somewhere.

John And please feel free to add Margaret Holden/Slater/Presley to your tree - she's worth having, she had 44 children, married her own son 5 years before he was born and had her last child when she was 67. You can fill in the gaps yourself, but do let me know, then I can pass it onto the bloke who has this lot on One World Tree - along with 45,000 other relatives - I kid you not. OC

'A Stab in the Dark' - a who-is-it in many parts, hosted by Inead Rellis. 'Till Death us do (...sorry, can't read that bit, was it a bodily function?...)' 'My Wife Next Door' (for oldies like me!!). Second Series provisonal title 'My Wife Next Census'. Third series 'Where the BMD is my Wife?'

OC Seems an awful lot of trouble to go to just to prove a link to Elvis. I have a perfectly genuine and researched (by someone who is extremely meticulous), but rather tortuous link to Michael Faraday. Why are you still up? John

John Too old to sleep! Can't afford to waste the time. Anyway, I am sort of looking for yet another FIRST wife - just discovered today that my 2 x GGM is not my 2 x GGM at all, she's second wife. That makes a full set of 2 x GGMs who are not mine. It has taken me 5 years to discover this and my GR tree is a pile of firewood. But I don't care now, cos I have just put my tree on Tribal Pages - sooooo easy to correct silly little mistakes like having the wrong ancestors. OC
