Think I'm going to leave this family for tonight and take a fresh look at everything tomorrow. Thankyou for all your efforts Julie, you're a star! Its great just to be able to 'talk' something through, even if nothing new is found. I do appreciate the work you've put in, Sue

hiya, no worries, i like a puzzle, regarding marriage certs, if you just buy one of them that will give fathers name/occupation, think you really need to buy Rolys though as this will establish if parents were married, but even sometimes this isnt conclusive, but as you put roly parnell davy i would assume it is the same, ie not married but having dads name to link parentage, only way is to get cert, i would think that all children will be reg'd in davy/davey name, HTH Julie

me again, just had another thought, have you tracked all of first marriages children????through census? there is a possiblility if the mother didnt die, she may be living with them later on???? JUlie

hiya we know george was first born to sarah ann, what about mary ann??? as she was born in 1853??? if parnell was born to second sarah, this leaves a short gap in which to re-search for sarah anns death? does that make sense?? Julie and to find get marys birth would help

Hi again Julie, You might wish you hadn't asked Julie...lol... With regards to Roly's marriage, yes I think it won't tell me anything new. Re the first marriage children... George and Mary Ann, I have nothing on them after 1861. I don't have them on any other census or a marriage for either.. Mary Ann could be the child of the 2nd Sarah, but without a birth ref, I don't know how I shall find out. There's also a Frederick that suddenly appears on the 1871 census. Who he belongs to, I don't know either. Again can't find a birth ref. Sue

me again, If Mary Ann was born in Drayton, as stated on 1861 census, which reg district would that be in?...or how do I find out? Sue

oh... just seen that I typed Mary Ann....but she is only Mary A on census!...sry don't know where the Ann came from.. think i got confused with sarah ann?..but it looks a good possiblity that she was Mary Ann. just going on the hunt (again) for Frederick Parnell bn c1854, as he should have been on 1861 census, but wasn't.. Sue....will brb

now this is even more confusing..the only Frederick on the 1861 census bn in Hethersett c 1854, seems to belong to another family... Eliza Davey abt 1837 Hethersett, Norfolk, England Daughter Little Melton Norfolk ****Fredk Davey abt 1853 Hethersett, Norfolk, England Son Little Melton Norfolk Joshua Davey abt 1793 Wreningham, Norfolk, England Head Little Melton Norfolk Rebecca Davey abt 1805 Hethersett, Norfolk, England Wife Little Melton Norfolk Rebecca Davey abt 1841 Hethersett, Norfolk, England Daughter Little Melton Norfolk If you're still hanging in here Julie...do you think this could be 'my' Frederick Parnell? Sue

As a late comer to the puzzle how about the scenario that Frederick in 1861 was with grandparents rather than parents? Joshua 68 and Rebecca at 56 are old enough to be Edward's parents. If Sarah Ann either died in child birth, or left the family then Edward may have brought in a housekeeper to cope with the older children and sent the baby to his parents (or of course he could just have been visiting on census night bu got enumerated wrongly). PS have you noticed the ancestry transcript for 1851 has George's age wrong, he was 1 not 7. Think this is his birth ref: 1849 Sept quarter St Faith's 13 114
